Hey 89camaroRSV6, i tried sending you a PM but it said your mailbox was full so i figured id just post this...anyways, i plan on swapping a 3.4 into my camaro this spring and Karl recommended that i should build up my tranny b4 the swap to have a good strong foudation. I noticed that your tranny barks goin into 2nd gear
. What do you have done to your tranny and how much was it? Ive been trying to get info on the Trans. board but most people on there only have info on trannys that will handle 500+hp, i dont need something that expensive. Thanks for your help!
Tom

Cost of tranny rebuild is proportional to talent of the rebuilder.
Some get lucky.
Some get taken.
I've had both rides.
Right now, mine is solid shifts into upshifts.
No barking of tires as that gets hard on driveline.
You want tight firm upshift.
And solid stay in fourth high speed crusing.

yeah i looked at my mailbox and it wasnt full.. i have only 4-8 messages in there (ive sent a mail todirk about that)
anyways ...a 700R4 u can do a lot with it.. most of the ppl in the tranny board have biggg v8's so tranny power handling is an issue there...
what are u expecting out of your tranny... beacuase if u want to firm ur shifts any shift kit would do it (cheapest being a B&M shift imporver kit) dont buy the B&M transpak (as it only has a filter extra)
the best shift kit around in the market also the most expensive is the transgo kit ( which is also a DIY like the B&M but far more work involved)
me i put in the B&M kit and also some parts like a sticky valve correction problem from the trasngo kit parts
(which i just found lying around in my mechanics place)
well if ur lookin at just chirping 1-2 shift u might just go and buy a corvette servo and .471 boost valve... they alone will make ur ar chirp
u can first have the 'vette servo installed to see the difference and see if u are happy (as it is outside teh pan)
everything else goes into the pan...
well i had a rebuilt tranny (about 2yrs ago) so i had no problems with the clutches ...
apart from the B&M and servo and .471 valve its mostly stock clutches and stuff..i have the stock shifter **** as well..
even if u put the 3.4 in there unless u ahve very serious mods in ur car the 700r4 will still handle the power...
i like the 700R4 over the other TH trannys (3 speed ) because of the bonus overdrive we have ...gives u good mileage in the highway...
if u have lots of miles in ur tranny some ppl dont recomed the shift kit as it might ruin the tranny..
how much hp output oyut of ur engine are u expecting ??anyways i think u can email me i guess ...

Thanks for the quick and informative replies! My tranny has about 100K miles on it but is starting to shift a little rough and from shifting from park to reverse makes jerks and a clunking noise. Basically, i just want to strengthen my tranny before the 3.4 swap. It would only have to handle 200+ hp so i just want something that will shift firmly and maybe chirp the tires in second
haha. So how much money am i looking at spending and what do you suggest? Thanks again guys!

FIRM up shifts, No jerking on upshifts.
Stays in fourth long time, until I really floor it.
I leave it in OD in town & it cooperates properly (no jerking back & forth).
It's adream come true.
Even my 1974 Corvette, it's the factory TH400.
Never rebuilt, 135,000 miles.
I can make it bark going into second on my command (manual upshift), but it's docile driving in town.
That's the type of tranny you want rebuilt.
Firm smooth no jerking on upshift.
