Rear Hatch Motor
Rear Hatch Motor
Okay, my rear hatch motor died, my Dad picked one up in TX and sent it to me, it is dead also. Where can I get a rebuilt one for under $100. Anyone? Thanks. Also, any idea on mods? (looking more suspension before I put more HP in)

Well, you could just swap the rear hatch panel. My girlfriend's old '87 Camaro had the hatch pulldown... before I met her, it broke. Her dad had it replaced with a pre-86 "normal" hatch latch. All the little sucker needs is a +12 line; that's it; it's completely independant of the rest of the car's electronics. It grounds through the mounting bolts of the latch.
Before any of you take the factory unit off, take an icepick or similar, and scribe a line around the mounting bolt washers. This will allow you to put the motor (or junkyard unit) back into it's original alignment. Otherwise, you could wind up either (A) straining the hell out of your pulldown or (B) not sealing the hatch, and getting a leak.
The same is true for window adjustment bolts. I usually grab a can of spray paint, and mist some paint over the bolt heads. That shows their exact original spot when I remove the bolts.

Thanks for the replies, got one off of ebay and will put it in when it gets here. IT BETTER WORK or I will have to do a cali trip to get my money back! I am planning a cali trip in a couple of weeks and will be about an hour from the seller. He will know if it doesn't work when it flies in his general direction! jk . I love this board, always an answer to a question and usually different ways to accomplish it. Thanks again all.
