Help! EGR WOES
Help! EGR WOES
I live in CA. SMOG Failed, car runs great, pollution levels were under the limits.
I failed because my EGR valve is not working.
The actual valve works when vacumm is applied; however, it is not recieving vacuum when normally conected.
Can the modulator be at fault?
Is there a way to test the modulator?
I called Autozone and they told me that I would have to go to the dealer...yikes.
I need to renew registration the car very soon, therefore I need to pass Smog. I was thinking that I could go to a junkyard to find replacements.
I checked vacuum lines and everything seems ok. Is there a vacuum diagram somewhere that I can refer to?
Thank you so much for your time.

The dealer can print you a diagram.
Pick up a Chilton's Haynes manual for your car ( the best $15 investment you can make!). there is a section that describes hoew to test the EGR solenoid. If the EGR moves freely it may be the solenoid will most likely be the prob.
It sucks when your car pass all the numbers, but fails becuase some thing small doesn't function!!!!

MORE than likely, it'll be your EGR valve.
It has a rubber diaphram.
IT goes after awhile, especially over the manifold.
Mine is flaking right now.
When I did my 3.4 swap, it had carbon. I cleaned, lubed, it lasted a year.
Go get a new one.
OR plan on that mission.
Didn't your light SES activate for this problem?
Mine goes on & off now. I also have a dip in idle. I hope it lasts till the end of the month!
