Using larger valves

I finally received the set of heads for my 2.8 project.

They have the smaller valves. A number of places with 60 deg V6 info state that the only difference between the small valve heads and the HO ones are the size of the valves.

Has anyone done an upgrade and installed larger valves?

I am wondering if I need to have the valves seats replaced in order to use the larger valves.

Thanks.

Ben

IF ya really wanna do this.
GO TO ANY HEAD SWAPPING PLACE
or WRECKING YARD.
Options.
Cracked, throwaway 2.8/3.1/3.4 heads
Throw away MPFI engines (tons of THEM), take those heads strip out valves
SWAP YOUR HEADS for the Over The Counter rebuilt MPFI heads.

You NEED new springs
NEW GUIDES
Griding/seating.
Swap in the "larger" valves.
Make SURE the back cutting is done on the VALVES, TOO!!

I once had a pair of MIS MATCHED SBC chevy heads.
I wanted the better of the two numbers.
I "shopped" around until I found an engine head shop rebuilder that would look at my swap option.
I paid $75 for my other 1969-1970 Z-28/LT-1 #186 head and gave him the other head, in trade. Big deal, I had the matched set. I paid $25 for that lone head at a swap meet.

I heard that the machine work to put larger valves in is very expensive; you might want to count those heads as a loss (or sell 'em on eBay) and do what Karl suggested.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. I'll see what the prices are for putting in large valves seats etc. If it's too expensive, I'll probably just port the heads I have and put in larger valve heads some other time.

Wisest is to shop/swap for MPFI fresh rebuilt heads from a head rebuilder.
Phone & ask, that's all I did & I won.
Paid little more but, I still won at a dirt cheap price.
Get your machinist cost & you'll be looking for the head rebuilders real quick!
