Hesitation

Yes, I have read previous posts about this problem, and there was one not too long back that I saved, and have read again and again. But I'm not sure if I have come to an understanding, so I figured I would venture a chance at perhaps you guys could shoot me an answer or in the right direction.

I seem to have the problems that were talked about. My car somewhat hesistates when accelerating. I'm talking like say I was driving 30 mph and just lightly pressed the accelerator, the car sometimes drops in RPMs and then goes back up. I'm lead to believe (from reading the other post) that it is an ignition issue. Tomorrow I am going to be replacing my fuel filter, thinking perhaps that might be playing in part of the problem.

I had read about someone replacing their HEI module. I'm wondering if that's the only thing I need to replace, and maybe someone could tell me how? Not that long ago, maybe 500 miles or so, I replaced my spark plugs and wires, and that seemed to help a little bit.

So I guess what I'm looking to find out is, what exactly do I need to do and buy to get rid of this problem? Any help at all is appreciated! Thank you very much!

Mark

Check and make sure you dont have a vacuum leak somewhere .
It might be a cracked vacuum hose or EGR valve acting up.
Also replace your distributor cap and rotor if you havent done it in a while.
Usually when a HEI module goes bad they just quit. Ive also read articles on the boards about replacing HEI modules as part of the tune up . To me its a waste of money . You will know when the time comes to replace it . The engine wont hesitate it will just plain die . Or you will go out to the car to start it and it wont start =no fire. Believe me we went through loads of them in our race boat until we switched over to the Mercruiser Thunderbolt ignition.
We went to the thunderbolt because MSD and Accel couldnt handle the salt and abuse.
I wish i could use it on the firebird , very hot ignition.

I think it'd be more of a cap/rotor or timing issue than the module... usually when a module goes, the car won't run. But that's just "usually"... try the cheap/free stuff first.
