Backfires, Stalls, Shiftpoints
Backfires, Stalls, Shiftpoints
As the title suggest, i have 3 issues.
1) ever since i fixed my exaust by replacing the y pipe, the car will backfire and try to die when in drive going from a dead stop, at more than about half throttle.
2) when coming to a stop from a higher speed, or going from a high speed, to slow enough to turn, the car will stall, unless i pump the gas. Almost as if i'm slowing down in a manual without downshifting or disengaging the clutch. this as you can guess is a PITA.
3) My car will not shift untill it reaches aprox 5500 rpm. shifts are good and solid, but late.
My first thought to 2 and 3 was a vacuum leak. I've replaced everything topside and won't have acces to a lift to check the transmission's line untill wednsday. Any other things i should look for?
But as for problem 1. Any ideas? it may be just me, but it also seems as though i've been going through gas to quickly. could it be running way rich, and the accelerator pump gives it enough gas to cause flooding? But then how would the exaust repair affect that? coincidence?
My timing is advanced 25 degrees could that be part of it (P.S. no knocks....)
I think it suffering a power loss, but then again, I went from driving a beefed up neon, to my camaro a month ago, So it's always seemed weak to me.
Any help would be great

problem 3 is most probbly a BAdly adjusted TV cable..
the TV cable is connected to the throttle body
go to the tech section and look at "TV cable adjustment or something "
that'll solve ur late shifts..

I'm wondering if you've got an exhaust leak between the manifold and y-pipe. How did you get the old y-pipe off? How'd you get it off the cat? If you were banging with a hammer around the cat, you might've broken up the cat's pellet bed, and the pieces could be clogging up the exhaust.
When you put the oxy sensor into the new y-pipe, did you re-use your old one? Did you buy a new one? Did the wire for the oxy sensor melt on the exhaust (and therefore, short to ground, and cause a lean condition)?
