Replacing Thermostat have questions..
Replacing Thermostat have questions..
I noticed on my engine temperature guage/dial the needle will reach almost to the red zone and all of the sudden shoot down to 200, i think the thermostat might be sticking(correct me if im wrong) so went to trak auto and purchased a Stant thermostat rated at 192deg/195deg(again correct me if the thermostat is the wrong temp setting) and the gasket. i haven't installed it yet and was also wondering when putting the new thermostat gasket in do i need any RTV silicon to help it seal or will the adhesive backing(which u peel off on the gasket) be enough?
Thanks------Abe

So how's Morumsco Plaza? LOL anyway
I got a 180 for a V8. I had the one for the V6 in my hand and size matched it to a same diameter 8er. You and your car will be alot happier with that. (you'll actually have heat for the freggin cold nights!) I just got high temp copper RTV.
To get to thermo take off the throttle body. It opens that aera right up. And tighten the housing bolts SLOWLY. put a good amount of RTV on it and SLOWLY tighten it untill you see it oozing out. wait a few minutes and put another crank or two. Razor blade off the excess. While your at it you may want to change to dexcool anti freeze. I found it helps keep the internals a little cleaner and runs alittle cooler. Just an option. Your choice. Oh and can't forget the 5? or 10? year garantee it has. Not bad.
Camaro hunter how do u know about Marumso Plaza? live near by....? Also so i do need some RTV, the Haynes manual doesn't mention any, i asumed just peel off the adhesive backing of the gasket and stick it on.

I used to live in that trailer park(Behind that car wash on the hill down from Dunkin D's) for a couple months before I joined the navy. Belonged to Bosses son, he moved and Boss said hell go take it. No rent and highest Elect bill was like 100!... Even had a real fireplace too...
And I lived on Woodbrige St? behind that strip mall with circuit city on the end. Has Bobs Big boy on the corner on the light beside the Ford dealer ship. Anyway if you head up twoards B/B from morumsco turn left at that light then make the next left past the BBq place I used to live down there too... That little strip mall right across from D/D has a really interesting book store. Octopus something(I think), go check it out, it has all kinds of stuff in there. There was also a book store in aquaquan on the potomac (spelling) that I really liked.. had all kinds of "celestial" stuff... I mainly grew up in that area, and manASSas... Ever been to mikes diner on 234 in manassas? Across from the hospital? GOOD HANG OUT DINER 24 Hrs and on the weekends theres a make shift car show in the parking lot across from there...
Anyway back to topic... the Haynes(IF YOU USED STOCK) replacement you don't need RTV. BUT if you put in that 180 like mine you do. You also may be able to find a gasket to match up to it. Anyway I used RTV to be safe. 18 months and no leaks.
