Why cant We....
Why cant We....
Hey there guys, I want to do the 3.4 boogie so I read through it and I was wondering why we cant use the 93 and up Dis-Ignition meaning the distributorless-Ignition, Is it because it just wont work even if you have the computer and the wiring harness?? Another thing is do we have to switch out fuel injectors and opil pan or do we keep them??? Thanks for help in advanced guys..:lala:
Either injectors will work.
You'd need a 3.4 harness/ecm/prom to use the DIS. Otherwise, how would you hookup the crank and cam sensor, the 2 main sensors used by the DIS system?
As for the oil pan.....i've been asking myself the same question. I think the 3.4 pan will work...just break off the inside part of the oil level sensor because it won't be used.

yeah Thats what I was thinking too. I can get the WHOLE engine including the computer, wiring harness,etc.... out of a 95 camaro. I just wanted to know why nobody here has done it that way. Thanks for the help.

does the 3.4 L comp have any effect on the 95 Transmission. maybe thats the reason. I seriously do not know. Just throwing in an Idea.
WHY I DID WHAT I DID.
IN MY INSTANCE
1985 engine platform, by switching the oil pan, I was able to keep all front pullies, accessories, etc, perfectly aligned.
And it was no aggrivation.
NOW someone that used to hang out here (Sgt.Panther), Dan, he did just that, used the 3.4 pan, as is, and drilled one hole (I DO NOT KNOW WHERE) to make the 3.4 engine compatible with his engine bay/pullies, etc..
Every swap may be unique.
Every swap will be "different" you may find a short cut.
My tips are "sure things" I did for my 1985 platform.
Your situation may be different, as Dan is discovering.
Your wiring question is up to you.

He had to drill a hole, huh? I honestly can't think of anything that would require a hole........basically I want to transfer as little as possible, thus making the swap quicker and less time consuming. So, i'll use the whole 3.4 except brackets, harmonic balancer, and plenum/fuel rail/TB. And maybe the timing cover unless I can find a way to put a timing tab on the 3.4 timing cover.
