Today I changed my thermastat to a 160 . I went to the parts store to pick up a gasket .The old gasket that I took off was a round rubber one . The only one that part store had , and said it worked in the computer was like a paper one , and its much bigger than the rubber one . I put it on there and it seems it will do fine , but I have not driven it yet . How will this different gasket do ? I have not driven my car sence I started on my injectors , today I just finished putting everything back together . Its a long story , but the parts store has not been open when I need it to and there is dangerious insifulitus (spelling?) mosquitoes out down here now . If you get bitten by one carrying the disease you can die .So my time has been real limited , anyway .Thanx guys !

Dont sweat it... the stock tstat uses a oring around the stat, as long as the paper gasket is compressed between the waterneck and the intake manifold it'll work fine.

How was the round rubber one orientated? I've always had a paper gasket on mine, and thru many scrapings, the sealing surface of the water neck is damaged. I need to slap a ton of sealer on the gasket to keep it from leaking.

I'd love an O-ring. Was it on the 'stat like Drew said? I thought that was only for 90-up 3.1's! See if you can get a bottle of gasket sealant; I use the Permatex Hi-Tack red, in a little metal can (with a brush in the lid). You could also use blue RTV (in a tube) to make a gasket, but don't overtighten the bolts, or you'll squish all the RTV out.
