What are the average supercharged times and dyno #'s for a 305/350

Under 13 seconds on a stock 305 with a supercharger, seems a little low?......

Thanks man!

i've actually had about as heavy of a load on it as it will ever get - and no rubbing... i'm sure it was close tho... autocrossing in the rough parking lot has also not made it run except on the insides... it has 335's on the back right now- thats what it came with, they are worn, and i will be replacing them with 315, and those will fit much more nicely with no rubbing insode

it just touches when its on the bump stops... like a sheet of paper could be pulled out with it down on them...

the other reason its not lower is becuase of the exhuast... i run longtube headers and if it was any lower they would hit everything

I checked in on this thread and wow!...i thought id bring it back for a few Q and A's of my own.

What kind of price were you paying for all this. I am a mechanic at a local tire store and can get excelent deals but sheesh 315's theyd think i was nuts. However, the two of you guys posting pics on here have me sold!

Anyone know of how this would translate for a TT2 setup or Cragar SS rim (backspacing and spacer size needed). Im sold on buying those styles but want them in 17X11.

fb305svs your bird looks a lot like mine...except in excelent mint, amazing, condition and those wheels/tires...incredible. I wanted to know what kind of problems you had with rubbing. I thought 245 was max on the fronts...and were you saying you fit 315 on the back without doing any tubbing? Im glad to hear that if its true because that means ill be good to go on my bird.

great posts guys

I bought my ZR1's last week from a guy in my city who wants to join my car club.

ZR1 17x9.5 in the front, 17x11 in the rear. The backs have BFG Drag Radials on them too.

Now I just need to figure out this backspacing stuff. I have no idea how to figure out the measurements and what kind of rear end that I need for the car.

go to skulte.com and email the owner of the site. He has dealt with ZR-1 rims a lot. He sells spacers and he told me if they spacers arent the right ones, then send them back (as long as u didn't band them up in the process) and you can exchange or get ur money back.. i can wait until i have the money for tires and spacers so i can get mine on and tucked in!

Oh, btw, i paid $300 off ebay for my rims. $387 after shipping. And i was lucky too.. they are brand new and are made by the same company that Louis bought his rims from... So that makes me extremely happy!

Well, here goes to answer the questions on my car -

I have determined the fenderwell flares ARE narrower on the birds vs the camaro's. I know for a fact i do not have a 4th gen rear in my car, and i had to use a 1/2" spacer in the back.

The fronts i used a 2" spacer

the backs, i used a 1/2" spacer in conjuction with the 36mm offset rear wheel.

As far as tubbing goes, i had a lovely time sweating my you know whats off while swinging a 2 1/2lbs sldege hammer in the 90* summer heat. There is a GOOD amount of hammering to be done, especially with the 335's. There is no need for a tire that big however, i find that the car has a tendancy to be rather loose (rear likes to slide out) with the 335's on there right now. Now this could be because the tires are old and are begining to show signs of being dried out and such (there is some cracking in the rubber).

With 315's i expect to have NO rub issues at all... BTW, hotchkiss springs!

And for the kicker? 500 bucks with the tires... 1/4 tread left ont he back, 1/2 tread ont he fronts... chrome has defects, but the wheels will be mint when i have them rechromed over the winter

If it wasnt so damn cold out, i would yank out my digital camara and take some pics so you can see how close it is...

GTAfanatic,
I'm spraying 100% Methanol with a 70psi pump and I'm
using a PAC controller That adjusts the spray pressure per
boost, more boost = more alky.

No tensioner yet just the stock adjustment type.

fb305svs youve made my day. Im slapping on TT2s or cragars but still ill need 2" spacer with no offset on the wheel for fronts and a 1/2" spacer with 36mm offset for rear, correct? I cant remember if i asked already or not but are you 17X11 guys running the stock rear end? If not what is your setup...beefed up diff/posi/zexel...

I desperately need new tires but would hate to throw down another $250-300 for just a cheap set to get me by. Id like to go ahead and put that towards my 17X11s with 275/315s. However i have a completely stock rear end. Should i go for it? (its a stock LO5 as well btw)

With my 315's I'm running a moser 9" with 4.11's.... so I shouldn't have any rearend problems.... until I start doing 5k rpm clutch dumps on slicks

*As for your car with 315's and the stock LO5.... you'll be fine.

I got to hand it to you nice ride & nice wheels !!
It really doesnt matter what style rim you have when there over 11"s wide from the back.. But they definatley make any ride look ballsy!!
Trying to get a 3600 pound car to handle or to launch a daily driver definately needs exactly what you got.
IMO they fit just RIGHT!!!!!!
I have been shopping rims for a while . My neighbor has a new BMW m3 wich has 18"s in the front and 19's in the back the car handles and sits awesome. wonder if any one has done that with a 3rd Gen yet ?? I might..

Big props to you 11" ers....Texas style all the way..lol

have you guys found any good all-season 315s. Goodyears seem to have great wet-traction. BF KDWs seem to get bad reviews. Ive heard mixed about them. Most 315s i found were around $250 a pop. Kind of pricey.

With the spacers, do you have to retorque them every once in a while?

just go for a wet dry tire and use some stock rims for winter duty with some snows... will save ur nice wheels, and you won't sacrafice the purpose of 11" wheels...

i have liked the michelen pilot sports, but there is a kumho tire i am going to be trying out... cheaper, stickier, and all around ment for both drag radial duty and autocross, both of which i do... i dont mind buyin a set of tires every year if they are going to perform.

for all you TT2 fans out there heres the specs you need to get them on your firebird.

"I would suggest 17X9.5 in the front with a 7" backspacing, P/N 50579563. If you chose to go to 17x11 all the way around with a 7.75 backspacing use P/N 50571163"

Thats from the AR rep i spoke to. I assume a 2" spacer in front and .5" spacer in back?

hmmmm

Avenger007, those are the exact specs that my TTII's on my 2000 Z28 have. Andris Sklute sold me some 1.25 for the rear, and some 2" for the front, since i am now going to install them on my 85 Z28. I will let everyone know how they fit in about a week. I say the fronts are about .4 to thick, and the rears about .33 to thick. But we will see i guess.

I don't understand... if you guys are going to buy brand new TTII's, then why not just buy the right ones for your 3rd gen and not use spacers.

what do you mean buy the right ones? Not use spacers? You have to, to make them fit. Correct? otherwise they rub the inner walls because max size is normally 245 for a tire. the spacer allows you to stick the tire farther out of the body, also makes it look a little better, and widens the stance too helping a bit with handling. I figured the word was it could only be done with em...yea or no.

BigBlockJason did you get 17X11s? Im thinking about 9.5 all around due to cheaper tires and a better selection. Plus my rear wont be able to take it.

I told the AR rep that i had a 3rd gen and thats what he gave me. Im still a bit confused about it and id prefer to not deal with spacers myself.

I think what GTA91 means is that you can get TTII's in just about any backspacing and offset you want. According to the AR web site, you can get the 17 x 9.5's with a min backset of 3.75 of and a max offset of 7.25. The 17 x 11's with a min backset of 5.25 of and a max offset of 8. This way you should be able to get the correct rim without spacers.

your rear will take it fine, that should be the least of your worries....

as for the backspacing, if you can get enough backspacing built into the wheel to not use spacers, then do so...

also, again, be aware that i have found there to be a 1inch difference in the width of the back of the car between the firebird and the camaros, with the firebird being narrower.

the difference in width between the cars meaning firebirds have an easier chance of fitting the 11s without tubbing?

I forgot TT2s have the custom backspacing and offsets to just fit correctly the first time. Im guessing those specs on those 17X11 that i got would fit without spacers.

Axle strength isnt much of a worry compared to finding a good traction/weather tire for a decent price in 315 size. 275s are just easier to find and cheaper for the most part. Goodyear has the eagle f1 thats good for almost anything but at $200+ a pop theyre too much. Any suggestions

check out the kumhos... they get good marks from people i know use them

as for the tubbing, i had a lot of clearencing to do, so the firebirds are narrower at the wheel wells for the body... so more clearencing...

Bump old topic. This car is up for sale. Louis has asked that we post this up everywhere, since everyone had says that they liked the car, I figured this would be a good post. Price is $15,000 but negotiable. Check out the nttga classifieds for more info and contact numbers.

Car is located in North Texas. I can vouge for this car. I have seen it on the dyno, on the street, and have seen his slips with the old 305. Car has never seen rain.

This is OLD, but that still looks awesome. They stick out less than my stock 16x8s on the 4th gen rear in my car.

Re: Pics of my new 17x11

Hey GOFASTER,
I'm running 4th gen 16" 2002 z28 wheels on my 88 and I'm using the 2" adapters front and back. They work great with plenty of room.

Good thread from back in the day.

I'm actually selling my '02 WS6 rims and going to chrome ZR1's with WS6 center caps.

Re: Pics of my new 17x11

OK...I don't mean to sound mean, or come across bad to anything...I'm just REALLY getting frustrated!

I have 17" x 9" ROH Snypers, that are a DIRECT FIT for a 3rd gen, not a 4th gen fit.

The current bs is 5".

I want to send the rear 2 off to be widened to 11" & only on the back, increasing the bs

My question is simple...What is the max bs I can run, without a 4th gen axle or any spacers/adapters or ANYTHING else, on a the stock 9-bolt 3rd gen axle? Can I run a 17" x 11", 7"bs wheel, with no mini-tubbing?

Minor hammer-work of the wheel well I can accept. Cutting off the bumpstop, while not desired, I can accept, if that is what is needed to do.

PLEASE don't start talking offset. Backspacing is SIIMPLE. Offset just compicates things with metric to english coversions...subtract offset from centerline for X....Subtract X from total width....Backspacing is a SIMPLE, DIRECT #...Why did things have to get complicated?

I'd like to get this figured out before I HAVE TO buy new, narrow, tires. HELP!

I have 18x10 4th gen offset on my car. I started out with a 1.5" adapter but they didnt tuck enough, so I switched to a 1.25" adapter. I ended up having to hammer a little on the fender wells (by choice to be safe) and remove the bumpstops and cut off the bumpstop mounts. I did alot of math to figure out exactly what I needed.
You will not be able to add and extra 2" to the inside of that Snyper without using atleast a 1/4" spacer, and even with that it may be to the inside too much still...
