Yokohama AVS ES100's

I have had these tires on for about 8 months now and cannot get over how impressive they have been! I have the IROC 16x8's and went with an OEM size 245/50WR16 which cost $97.00 each from
Tire Rack, whom I have bought 4 sets of tires through - awesome company. I went cheap as I am saving for a set of 17" wheels and plan on getting them by years end. After going through the F1's, Eagle VR's, BFG Comp T/A's & G-Force KDW's (awful on anything but a race track!) I am astounded that an inexpensive tire like this offers the levels of grip (dry & wet), low-noise, mileage, steering response and stability that it does! No Camaro is fun to drive in a mid-summer Florida downpour but these tires inspire confidence like none I've had on this car in the 15 years I've owned it. They are not for snow but as a daily-driver tire I am thrilled with them...

Your car looks awsome. Are you planning on an IROC hood too? I think i like the flat hood but i'm sure the iroc one would look good too. I like the blacked out look w/o fog lights, the darker wheel inserts, flat hood, good job. Do you happen to have a better pic of the wheels?

Anyway i'm glad you like the tires. Have fun.

I have not used very many different tires on my car, but these tires are awesome. I used them for two days at summit point and twelve autocross events. I will probbably need to buy new ones mid next summer but the grip is worth it.

I'm not terribly proud of my Yoko's simply becuase they were in the basement of cost (is that really a bad thing) with respect to the tires I wanted to buy for the Firebird.

The things I like about these tires:
  • Great grip.
  • Awesome, unbeatable price (Tire rack)
  • Great reviews.
Here are the things I'm not carried away with:
  • Black wall is worse than the lettered side.
  • Not unidirectional.
According to "Souseless" your tires have been proven in competition. Cool.

I like the grill, wheels, and taillights of the IROC but my car is just an RS and if I go beyond this point I think it would look too "wanna-be." The 90-92 RS's had these 3 things on them so I feel like I'm not trying to make the car something it isn't...
The wheels are sand-blasted, ground, polished, and insert-painted with Duplicolor grey wheel paint, no clear-coat...
Thanks for the comps!!

Wow, I had no idea a nice-riding tire like this could pull that kind of duty!! Good to know!!!

How long do you think you could run these tires under normal use?? Ive gotta get tires this spring and was going to get the F1s but people seem to think they suck for cornering. I have toyos on there right now from the last owner and even with my hard driving and a few burnouts theres still a pile of tread left on the back and they do perform rather well.

I've put just under 8K relatively gentle miles on them so far and the treadwear has been minimal. I haven't done any racing or burnouts on them..... yet!

I think that these tires could go 12,000 miles under hard street driving. This means hard cornering and hard accelerating not smoky burnouts. Midne will likely see 7000 miles. I melted away a ton of rubber at summit point

boy, at 97 a pop, that sounds like a good deal. how much is shipping from the tirerack? then you've gotta get them installed at a tire shop.. those two things seem to bite you in the *** when it comes to ordering online. but good deal nonetheless... i paid too much for my tires.. 130 each at a discount tire center for dunlop sp sport a2's in the same size as yours...

and you really feel they are better than bfg gforce kdw's on the street, eh? i'm pretty curious... why do ya think so? i was planning on kdw's as my next set, but i'd love to hear criticism about these tires.

Shipping for all 4 was $32.00 and they have agreements with local shops for installation, typically $13.00 each for mounting and balancing.

Well, I should have never bought them in the first place... They are a max-performance tire and carry all of the pro's & con's of such a tire. I live in Florida and the KDW's were a summer tire not suited for anything but dry roads. The amount of noise, constant rebalancing, and just plain rough ride didn't get it for me. I am getting a little soft on the performance thing, I know, but I do enjoy driving and my 38 y/o back needs more pampering nowadays!! lol

I ran a set of Yokohama A520's the past two seasons and as you I was shocked by the incredible performance of those tires and would have bought them happily again but they discontinued the model and replaced it with the AVS Sport. After checking out tirerack I chose the Goodyear GSD3 because according to those reviews it seemed like a lock All I can say is I am horribly disappointed with how lame these Crapyears are. Other than the smoother ride The Yokohahams were far superior in every high performance aspect wet or dry. I wish I had bought these ES100's as they look very similar to the A520 that I miss soooo much. Be careful with Tirerack reviews!!! They did not suit my needs whatsoever so be warned.

are you sure you didnt have the KD's? the KDW's are supposedly for wet and dry conditions, whereas the KD's are only for dry...

I like how they stick. They are hard to break loose. They are very soft though. I have my back to to less than half tread already with only 4,000 miles on them or so. But this is after Hot Rod power tour and basically just sat nite cruises. My car doesnt get out from under that car cover too much, but when it does I drive it hard. Also they dont let you know when the come loose very well either. They are pretty quiet. Overall good tires though. Good auto-x tire......

I'll second MurcoRS's review of the Yoko AVSs... because I bought the same set this past spring. I also bought them from TireRack... and they seem to be the best performance tire I've had so far. My '88 GTA is also my daily driver during the summer. Great handling... and above all great looks! The tread is definitely aggressive. If I had pics I'd post them.
