tire choice BFG vs FStone
Well, I've narrowed down my tire choices to two possibilities. I want raised white letter tires in 235/60/15 for my Bird and I was wondering what experiences you all may have had with:
1. BF Goodrich Radial T/A's
2. Firestone Indy 500's
It almost seems that from the reviews I've read that the Firestones seem to be possibly preferred over the BFG's. Anyone had both and care to comment on which one you'd choose?
Thanks in advance.

Keeping the white letters, in that size, and with those two brands, I'd guess performance will be about the same with either one. So I'd suggest the less expensive one for the better "bang-for-the-buck." And Firestones are prolly a lot less expensive than BFGs... and "Indy 500" sounds way cooler too.

Hard to beat the Radial TAs for looks and they last a while too. But they don't seem to balance out well and run smooth from what I've had. If you buy the TAs make sure you get them at a reputable shop that will back them up if need be.

BFG Radial T/A's are the way to go. Can't beat the good looks, they last a LONG time, and if you buy from the right location they're not bad on price either. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...ance&tc=MTAHZB That's where I got mine had a local shop mount and balance and they don't ride too dang bad either.

I had BFG's on my 86 Z28 when i first bought it, i changed to the Firestone indy 500's and noticed a smoother ride, and better wet handling.

I had a set of BFG's. They don't look bad but the ride is soft and mushy. Traction is average.
I'd look into Bridgestone's aswell.

I just got the new bridgestone version, i think it is the RE960as pole position. I LOVE them I have never ridden on better tires and these tires show that better tires are noticable over cheaper ones.

The BFG's look better. I allways wanted some and finally put them on my 88 convert. There a little mushy like someone else said and not so great on traction. But I don't put but about a 1000 miles a year on my car and never drive it in the rain.

Re: tire choice BFG vs FStone
Wow! Thanks for all the replies guys! I think I will likely go with the BFG's if they ever get them produced (there's a big national backorder on the size I need)! Guess I've seen so many of them on various cars that I can't bring myself to use any other brand, although the FStones were tempting as they are in stock right now!
I found out from the original owner and the build sheet that the car originally came with the raised white letter tires and a more "original" look is what I'm shooting for, even though I have aftermarket rims on it (everyone hated the original rims, including me!) Thanks again for the opinions!
