Need some help finding drag wheels!!!

Ok, here is the deal. I have an 88 camaro that is setup for street/strip. I have Baer brakes front and rear that require 17 inch wheels minimum(supposedly some 16's MAY fit). The car is also setup to accept 4th gen F body offset wheels. Needless to say, I am looking for a wheel that is 4th gen style/offset in a 17 inch wheel(or if you know of a 16 inch wheel that will fit). I am VERY partial to the Weld Prostar/Aluma Star style of wheel, but from what I understand they don't make them in 17 inch sizes. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your time, Paul M

Use street rims or convert the car back to regular brakes so you can use the proper lightweight drag rims. It's unlikely you'll find large diameter "drag rims". There's isn't a market for them because drag tires don't come in this large diameter sizes. A 15" rim is the most common and the 16" rims are generally for the very large slicks.

Drag cars don't need massive calipers so there's no reason to use the large diameter rims.

Re: Need some help finding drag wheels!!!

Well going back to factory brakes isn't an option for me. I spent way too much money on them. Plus the car is a street car first and foremost, so I wanted the brakes to be as good as they could be. The brakes are the Track system from Baer 13inx1.10in rotors up front with 12in.x.80in out back, 2 piston calipers. From what I have read about them, they use the calipers from the mid 80's Gran Sport Corvette and modify them to fit the F body spindles. I also only plan on using drag radials. I don't think that my car has enough power to warrant the use of slicks. I was hoping that maybe there was a 16 in wheel that might just clear the calipers so I could use them. Guess I will have to keep searching, or like you said, just find some factory take offs and use those. Thanks for the reply, and Happy Holidays!!

Re: Need some help finding drag wheels!!!

The C5 vette guys have a "drag pack" wheel configuration that allows skinnies up front and a special 16" rear wheel. - Might be worth looking into.

Otherwise, go 17x11 rear and a 315/35/17 BFG dr(Mickey is soon to release a 315/35 as well, Hoosier has a 335/35 in their DR's, but I haven't tried them). I went 1.66 60' on nitto 315/35's, my buddies stang went 1.69 on the BFG's. I never got to run the BFG's once I finished all my suspension up and really got the tune dialed in but prior to that they had always hooked harder than the nittos. - Whenever I get around to working on the 'vert again I intend on going 1.4x 60's on 17's.

I should also note that I'm not sure about the new offering, but the previous Micky radials have sucked with manual trans cars. They even have that listed as a footnote in their catalogue.

you could check out the american racing torquelite wheels, they make them from 15s up to 18s and they look like a prostar
