C5 rims on my 89 Iroc?
Hey guys,
I have a few questions I'm hoping you can help me out with.
I have a set of 2001 Corvette thin spoke wheels and am wondering if I can run them on my stock 89 disc brake equiped Iroc, or will I need to run spacers? The rims are factory thin spoke 17x8.5 and 18x9.5
The front tires are about 60% 245/40/17, the rear i've been burning off on the vette the last 2 summers so there done, size is 275/40/18.
What tire size would I run when I go to replace?
I've been reading about swapping to a gen 4 Camaro rear, and being it's widder would that be a better fit? I currently have a 2.77 rear so the 3.23 or 3.42 would be desired anyways.
Thanks Don.

Thanks, does anyone on here run these, I'm curious what it looks like before I start jacking up both cars and ordering spacers.

I have them on my TA. I dont like the way the wheel well is now more open. Now I'm in the costly process to lower my car to make the car look right.

Re: C5 rims on my 89 Iroc?
I have them on my 84 TA, I'm happy. I used 2"-2" spacers I'm going to try 1.5 in back, it looks like I still have 2" of clearance on the inside and I'm going to a smaller tire. I now have 245/45/17 front and 285/35/18 rear. Only thing I don't like is the steam roller look in the back. I just bought a set of goodyear eagle F1 runflats 255/35/18 for the back. The 285 measure 11.02, 255 =10.034 and 275=10.82 wide, so I figure they are about 3/8 of an inch closer to center of rim on each side. Makes for better clearance.

Re: C5 rims on my 89 Iroc?
yes, it keeps it level. factory setup is 245/45/17 front and 275/40/18 rear. For some reason my rear has always been taller than my front since the car been new. As you know the 35 and 45 are the height since the back is 18 the 35 brings it almost level to fronts 45(17).

Y2K's here too
2" on all 4 corners
1.5" will work up front but the tie rod much be clearanced some. 1.5" will not work in the rear with the 9.5" wide tires (18's) as they only leave 1/4" between the tire and LCA. A hard corner will deflect that much

Re: C5 rims on my 89 Iroc?
Thanks for the heads up on the 1.5" spacers. I already have then but have not tried them. I noticed with the 285/35/18 tires, the tire over hag was almost 1/2 inch over rim on each side. I was hoping with the new 255/35/18 I would be able to tuck them a little tighter and I still have almost 1.5 inches of clearance.
The new quarter panels have a 1/2" larger lip on the inside wheel well opening, this is the reason why I want to tuck the wheels in more. I don't have any way to roll the edge. I know about using a bat, but don't have the extra bodys to help me do it.

Re: C5 rims on my 89 Iroc?
I run 275/40/18's on the rear and the tire is slightly wider than the rim
255's will severely stretch the sidewalls. Are you sure 35 ratio will flex that much?
Do not use a bat to roll the lip. Rent the tool and use your old wheels until its done

I was told smallest size I can use is 9.5 wide tire. So now I really dont what to do.?????
I wish someone near me had one to rent. I looked all over.

not to mention that tire is only 25" tall on an 18" wheel, very low profile... and short... lots of wheel well gap....
when you have a 26" tire on the front with 17" wheels, 2" more sidewall than the front? that really short sidewall tire would look really funny compared to the front with way more sidewall.

Re: C5 rims on my 89 Iroc?
I have 35/18 in the back now. They fill the gap nice as far as height, just too wide. The new ones are just not as wide. As I stated before the 275 are 10.8 inches wide and hang over rim by just over 3/8 of an inch. The 255 are 10.2 inches wide and will be almost flush with the rim.

255 40 17 fronts, 275 40 18 rear Goodyear F1's. 2" Skutes all around. Finished installing Spohn's new delsphere LCA's, panhard bar and Pro kit springs. Up in the air about the LCARB's but the rear sits nice now. Next the FE.

Re: C5 rims on my 89 Iroc?
yes you will need spacers/adapters. On my 84 TA w/ stock disc brakes
the brakes are not the problem, its the back spacing of the rims. there is a sticky on how to measure to get correct back spacer. i'm using 2 INCH all around. everything clears ---but tire clearance is tight. make sure you get good adaprers and torque them down to correct amount.

here is mine with 2" front and 4th gen rear, since this pic i have lowered the rear some more with the hose mod. now it sits good. Tires are 245/45/17 and 275/40/18 and fit just fine.

They look great. I love the way they looked polished. I think polishing may be my winter project.

I know the better option is to run the fourth gen rear instead of spacers but is there anyway around running spacers on the front? like a knuckle kit?

not that I know of. But that does not mean that there is nothing. I would do some heavy web searching and reading, you never know what you will find.
