1982 Camaro whats the widest tire without mods?

I have a 82 camaro with a small block 400and I need some big tires for traction. Whats the biggest I can go without mods? I want to put drag radials on it.

275/60/15 is what you're looking for on stock wheels or 15x8 4.5" backspace wheels. You can also use a 5.5" backspace, but it'll either be really close to the inner fender or possibly need a touch of BFH. Any m/t e/t street radial will fit, but any taller and/or wider requires the BFH mod and a proper set of wheels.

It also depends on what size wheels your running (15"/16"/17"/18"), what brakes you have & if your running a 3rd gen or 4th gen rear.

That will all play into what width you go with & backspacing you'd need to use.

rear came out of a newer Z28 but bolted right up. 10 bolt. disc brakes, 15-8.5" wheels. 82 Camaro Z28

Newer as in.....What year? 82-92 the rear are the same width (except for drum vs disc brakes) and the 93-97 are 4" wider and the 98-02 are 3.5" wider.

newer than 82 but between an 82 and 92 dont think it would bolt right up if it was newer than 92 or older than 82 but im not certain. not sure what exact year it came from. Didnt think they had disc brakes on my car in 82 but then again Im not sure.

The 93+ up rear ends are a direct bolt-in, but if converting from a drum rear to a disc rear. some people swap out the proportioning valve too, some don't. All about personal preference & how your "new" disc brakes feel on the old drum brake proportioning valve.

Older than 82 rears would require a lot of special cutting & welding & fabrication to fit, just like putting in a Ford 9" rear end.

But if your staying with 15" wheels, the above recommendations will work for you, IF your brake rotors & calipers will fit in the 15" wheel.
