Wheel and tire sizing

Im in need of some help im starting to shop for tire and wheels for the bird. It is a 85 with an 96 disc rear end. I am wanting a fatter tire in the rear, but am confused on what spacing to get for the rear. I was looking for some 16 inch cragar with the 6 or 8 holes in the middle and for tire size for the rear I was looking at 275 on an 8 inch wheel with 5.5 backpace and for the front 255s on an 8 inch wheel and whatever spacing I would need Would this work for the front or do I need a smaller tire? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a nood when it come to wheel and tire size.

I'm running 9" wide/5"bs fronts & 275s with zero rubbing on my DROPPED GTA.

With a LT1 rear, you could easily fit 11" rear/7"bs wheels & 315s with virtually NO mods to the rear quarters. I'm 99% sure that you could do it.

These cragars are a 16x8 with 5 inch backspacing. Would that be enough to keep a 275 flush with the fenders. this also has stock suspension.

I don't know of any 275/16s, so that kinda rules out 275s to begin with.

Re: Wheel and tire sizing

So I could put 255 on the 16x8 and on the front do a 235x7? Ive been searching on here, buy get mixed reviews on what to do. I don't go to the track, but I want a fatter tire on the rear and not have to worry about rubbing.

Sure.....

A 255/50R16 will fit a 16x8 just fine on the rear. Same goes for a 235/55R16, sorta. It will be 1/2" taller overall, but that isn't a big deal.

If you want a fat rear tire, get the BFG 295/50R16. I've run that before & it gives the *almost* Pro Street look with the tall (ish) sidewalls.

Ok the 295/50/16 for the rear sounds good. What would you put of front? To give it a slight slant or level, just not a taller tire in front. Stephen thanks again for the help.

Personally? I'd do the 245s or 255s up front, because I like maximum traction on all 4 corners for handling. 245s are what I had on the car I posted above.

If you want the front slightly lower (cheaply).....Pull the front springs, cut 3/4 coil off them & put them back in. Don't touch the rear springs & the front will drop some, but the rear will stay at stock height.

Re: Wheel and tire sizing

I planning on getting these wheels.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-3987834P/

The only cragar wheel with the most backspace is the one posted. One more question, what backspace am I looking for the front? with a 255/50 tire? Sorry about all the questions. thanks again.

Re: Wheel and tire sizing

Will five inch backspace be keep the 295 tire inside the well, with the lt1 rear?
