Re: pictures of 295-50-16?

This is a old photo of a 295/50r15 on a 8 in. rear wheel. Obviously not a 16in. but will give you some idea as to what they look like.Tire width and your back spacing are what is going to determine what your end result will be. That being said, I made a mistake with the BS on my rear wheels so they run slightly further out than I would like with that tire. Something I will remedy when money is not so tight.

Edit = Went to a smaller tire 255/60r15s rear,(photo below)and think it looks better/cleaner than the rear balloon tires I have in the above photos.

Re: pictures of 295-50-16?

What is the bs on your wheels? Here is my old car with stock wheels & the BFG 295/50R16s:

Bad pic, but.....:

This one is a bit better, as far as showing how the tire fits:

Front rims have 4.25" of backspacing. The rear rims have about 4.9" of backspacing

pretty sure the front 16x8's are 4.5" of bs, or 0 offset

Well.....Offset is only a measurement <based on> from tire seat to tire seat. Backspacing is measured from the lip to the hub back.

If you go measure a wheel, you will find it does not physically equal its advertised width. So if you go measure a 0 offset wheel, you will find that it does not equal half of its advertised width. My 17" x 9" ROH Snypers with 0 offset physically measure 5" backspacing.

Check out Skultes FAQ about measuring backspacing here, so you can see its not just me.....
http://www.skulte.com/adapterfaq.html

Te misunderstanding of backspacing & offset in relation to each other, is what caused me serious frustration in trying to explain to others when I was trying to fit my 11s. When I stopped trying to explain it to others & just did what I knew was right, it all went as smooth as glass!

i understand offset and BS perfectly, and a 16x8 advertised wheel will measure ~9" wide, thus 4.5" of BS or 0 offset. You 17x9's are ~10" wide if you measure their total width, giving you 5" of BS at 0 offset. Offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface, positive or negative. Personally i like BS better, offset is just more work

i seem to remember my old stock 15x7's having 4.25 " of backspacing, fwiw.

In case anyone reads that, offset is actually the distance from the wheel centerline to the wheel hub.

Yes.....I Edited my post to clarify that is a measurement that is based on the tire seat measurement, unlike the backspacing based on te physical wheel width.

Frustration made me type too fast & not be clear in my words.

How much are you willing to cut out? I have 315s (i'll be putting 335s on these 11" wheels come tire replacement time) on 11" wheels & could easily go to 12"s and probably 355 width (or more), & still be under the fenders easily. And I didn't do any major cutting of metal. Some cutting, yes. But nothing real major.

me + cutting metal isnt the safest thing but 315's is plenty wide enough for me i wont ever use that much tire ill prolly go with 275's - 285's on the rear and if they dont fit ill find sombody with more car sense then me and then ill start cutting things off

and i still wont use that much tire

You got 16" wheels? The BFG 295/50R16s will fit a stock 16" x 8" wheel just fine & fit the wheel well just fine too, wit zero mods. I know because I've done it.

The only way that stock 15x7 rims measure 4.25" BS is if you measure it the correct way: Name: 0000000000.jpg

I like the overall width, but the profile is too bubbly. I'm more about the lower profile (not like the ricers), and wide.

Re: pictures of 295-50-16?

I've never seen anyone measure a wheel from inside the tire bead seat instead of measuring on it. I know all the measurements I've taken or seen taken been taken on top of the bead & resulted in their advertised bs. Measuring that way would have resulted in measurements that contradicted what the manufacturer said they were.

It is in the thread title & only 1 manufacturer makes a street tire in that size.....

I think that looks silly.

Maybe due from the small front tire, but just doesnt look right to me.

A few weeks ago there was a guy at the car show who had these 295/50R16 Radial T/As on the back of his '84 Corvette Z51. These look great on a 9.5"-wide wheel like his.

Did you guys notice any deference during hard cornering?

i have a set of OE Irocs on my 68 Chevelle Which we all know its not a great handling car. i wonder if tires this tall and Bubbly would hurt the lack of handling even more?

Did you need any spacers to run the 295s? I have a 92 formula and the 255 are getting a little hard. Thanks

I had them on stock wheels, no spacers. Just like a stock 245 would go on.

i know im reviving an old thread but i want to put these on my rear crosslace wheels... what do you guys think...
Good luck finding a pair, they've been discontinued, due to slow sales, due to high price, due to slow sales, it's BFG's favorite game, they want immediate RoI, thus lose the entire investment. I guess they really just like to tease us then write off the loss.

This is the truth. I forget the size, but 2 of my buddy's are trying to get a BFG TA and I guess they only make them once or twice a year in a limited run. The one guys 34 Chevy has the rear fender built for house that one tire size so anything else is just not spot on.
