What's the deal with black wheels?

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I think you have a 1989 model year...that is when Pontiac put the 5.7 in with the 5sp with T-tops or your car was made at the end of the 1988 prduction run. and you got the carry over switch...Lucky Bastard!!! remember I was building my car on the production first run in Nov. of 87 for the 88 model run....now to push you guys a little bit...I now have a 350 punched .30 over to a 355, Trickflow heads, KB Pistons. B&M 144 Supercharger pressing 8lb boost with a quick dial to 12 if needed, and God help me NOS 6sp T-56, rear 3.73....sub frames yes. going Bear Claw brakes all 4 corners. red. like the Bimbos I have on my SRT-8 Super-Bee #854/1000...This car I've had for every mile that was ever put on it...ME!!! no wifey or big boob girlfriend was allowed to drive said car...(my 14yr old son has other ideas) but that is different....he is like me way to much....but as a project car now, he has been helping in the customizing of this car. I figure if he puts some sweat into the car, he'll think twise before lighting up the tires on it...and yes he's buying the tires!!! working any job the naighbors can give him...but I tell that even then, something about a cold day in hell prying the keys loose form my cold frozen fingers. lol...So far to date the sum of 20K into said project. and still needs alot of finishing. I hope you guys enjoy the project pic I put on here...this is how it looks right now as I write from Kuwait...enjoy and love hearing form all of you guys.

10 less HP stock. But when you start doing mods you will always make more HP with a 350. I was only comparing engines, not the 5 speed vs automatic debate and didnt factor gears too. This is a wheel thread. I am sorry I said anything about engines.

Really? I was unaware they mated they 5spd with the 5.7L. People claim chevy did it but it is very false. I wonder why pontiac mated the T5 with the 350 and chevy never did. The T5 isn't ment to handle over 300ftlbs of tq, it can but is not designed to.

Now...about the 338 rims, Foose makes a rim just like it...question is why don't they (either company) make this rim in 19"?... I'd like to go 18" front and 19" rears.

The 305 might have had only 10 less horses, but don't forget that the 305 still had almost 40 Ft/LB of torque less than the L98..

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
Working with a local vinyl guy and doing a reversed look on the center caps, basically everything black on the center cap will be silver and everything silver will be black, with a red "bow tie", and the "nut" will be chrome still and factory center will be factory Camaro.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I think black rims look good. It just depends on what it is on. KMK's Corvette....that car is so sick. I saw some black 5th gen camaro rims and I thought they looked great. As for color to go with a black rim...silver, flat or gloss black. To me any other color just doesn't look right. Too bad the 5th gen ones have an offset that doesn't look like it would work on a 3rd gen. Maybe there are some dished versions floating around somewhere?

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I think powdercoating black is better than spray painting them. i have a set of older corvette rims im gonna have powder coated black, ill post pics of before & after when they are done, atleast you can't see the brake dust with an all black rim...hahahaha

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
The reason I dont put on the golds are twofold. One, I dont like the gold on them. I think they look like a BMW poser and too gaudy. If they were black they would make the car look much better (I have a pic of one with them on.. much better) See below:
and the second reason is they are 100% perfect and I hate to damage them. they have the original tires on them so unsafe any any speed!!! and I dont want 3 pairs of rims if I buy a cheap set and powder coat them.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
oh yeah your car looks great. I used performance friction pads my last brake change and I am happy with the amount of brake dust they do not emit.
I saw some stock rims done with black chrome today and my mouth was just drooling over them! I was like if my car is ever not a daily driver I am so going to do this!

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
yeah, I'm planning on copying a friend who has a black 3rd gen with bronze rims
sorry no pic of his car or rims but this is the same finish (duplicolor bronze):
it has that mean look black rims have but breaks up the colors a little more.. and its not as yellow as the gold rims on some T/As
def not for bright yellow etc cars but for black or dark red cars it looks awesome
