Just got done mounting the 315 Kumho autocross tires and bolting them on the car. The fronts are 17 x 9 1/2 with 275s on them.

Holy crap thats perfect. and they look to have the stock finish? Way better then the billet set ive seen.
thats pretty cool. I assume the centers were cut out and adapter to new hoops? Hate to know what that cost. But seems well worth it, has the stock look, yet much improved and stealthy

Nice. What bs did you go with on the 11s?
Who & How did they put the 16" centers in a 17" hoop?

I did the first set start to finsh, The next six I had a local wheel company do the lathe work and I did the mill, tig and finish work myself. With that its hard to set a price on them.Originally Posted by BigWhiteGTP

even more impressive doing it yourself. Well done.

I made them 6 inch to be a bolt on set. With how low the car is and how big the Kumho XS are ( very big for a 315 ) i think some wheel tub work and new 7 to 7 1/2 wheels are not to far away. My 92 has 12 inch wide wheels with 6 inch back space and the rear end is narrowed 3 inches on each side.Originally Posted by Stephen

I'd spend some hard earned money on a set, but I were you, I'd hold out on making a set for anyone at any price just for a little while, you know,to be exclusive....exotic even.
Thanks for all the neat comments. I do Third Gen stuff just for fun, and no way will it ever be a business for me. With that said, it would be fun to have another set out there and I had a great conversation with mikesanto70 and we're working on a plan to get him a set.

I hope the GTA wheels workout with the new way we are doing them, doing them the old way will not work. Now for one more love them or hate them wheel, at are last club meeting one members was asking if the snowflake formula wheels can be done, and after looking at them i think the formula wheels will be very easy to do.

Stay tuned on the GTA wheels. We should know in a week or so if this will work. I understand one wheel showed up today. Maybe the next one will show up tomorrow. If so then off to the wheel shop for a brain storming session.

In this particular application we are going for a 17x11 wheel as they are going on the rear. I will inquire about a 17x9 wheel.

I would be highly interested in knowing how these sizes work out on the GTA wheels and cost associated…. 17 x 9 -9.5 and 17 x 11. I have a set of 4 I can send last night!Originally Posted by 1989GTATransAm

I didnt think this could be done with GTA rims. I recall PMng back n forth with Jerry more then a year ago asking about doing my GTA rims in a 17inch hoop.
If its doable now , I know what I'll be buying again and sending his way is he plans to do more.

I am taking one wheel to the shop tomorrow and have a brain storming session. The other wheel has not shown up yet. Both wheels shipped the same time in the same place but arrival is days apart. Should have an answer soon as to whether or not we can convert 16" GTA wheels to 17". I will ask about 9" widths also.
Supreme Member
awesome! always was a big fan of these wheels, making em' bigger and better is just icing on the cake
Supreme Member
Okay, we had a brain storming session this morning. The bottom line is maybe. The problem is the design of the GTA wheel being different from most other 16" wheels. Just looking at it one would say it can't be done. However I have donated a rear wheel for experimentation purposes. So we may have an answer in two weeks or so. The shop is real busy with the SEMA show coming up so that is the delay with the project and of course we have to get in line.
They will be looking into an alternate method of doing the conversion to 17". So I would say there is a 50-50 chance. There are two sizes of 17" rims readily available. Those with a 9.5" spacing and those with a 11" spacing. The preliminary figures for maximum back spacing is a around 8" with the 11" rim and 6" with the 9.5" rim. All this is subject to change once the machining is done and the real numbers can be computed.
So lets keep our fingers crossed.

Many companys already do this. Found one that widened or shoten 1-4 inches for $300 ea.

They narrow or widen wheels, yes (1"-3", never seen a place that does 4"). But not change diameter. A 16" x 11" wheel would be easy to have, but there is really no point in doing that. Not much selection for wide 16" wheel tires.Originally Posted by imRICH23
