The T/As have always been my favorite tire, IMO the lettering on the indy 500s looks cheap and out of place.

 

17 for Firestone and 12 for ta's. Is the story.

 

The firehawks absolutely look great and better than the T/a's. Trust me I am a daily driver car. T/a were horrible. In those pics the firehawks sidewall stand out so much better and the lettering has more of a today look too it.

 

Just another thought... if you're bent on those two then I think this thread pretty much covered it. The Firehawks are the more modern of the two, but the Radial T/A's are classic, and that goes for both looks and performance on both of them. But if you're still not sure, they also sell paint markers that make any tire look as if it has white (or yellow) lettering : http://www.amazon.com/Duplicolor-Tir.../dp/B000FNC61S
Obviously you'd have to find a tire you like that would look good with the lettering painted and perform and last the way you'd want it to, but it's just another thought.

Just a chime in question, isn't the Indy 500 discontinued? I called a Firestone yesterday and they couldn't find it. Unless it's the 245/50/16 I was looking for. It's not the Wide Ovals either.

 

235's look right at home on the stock 15x7 wheels imo.

The Indy 500s only come is 225/60 for 16in tires. the Wide Ovals and Indy 500s are completely different

 

You need to look again, they come in 245-50-16 but black only

 

Can you post a link to buy one? I need one in that size and black only, but can't find it anywhere. Even in that link, it doen't show the size even though it exists.

I don't know of any 50 series tire that's available with white letters... there's just not enough real estate to make that work

 

No no, I meant TireRack has 15s in Indy 500s. They don't have 16s which are blackwall. I'm looking for the blackwalls.

Yup. Firehawk Indy 500 (Non wide ovals). The local firestone said they're discontinued.

 

I pulled that info from Firestone's website. Put your year, model, sub-model...then choose!

 

No show. Only Indy500 Wide Oval and WideOval. I'll stay on the hunt.

yeah... as soon as the roundup is done I'm going to sand down my car and repaint it. I'm going to repaint my wheels probably at the same time, then after they are painted I'll put new tires on. I'm going back on forth on black or white. I think it's honestly going to depend on how dark the car is. If the color grey I get is lighter, I might go white letters. if it's darker, then it's blackwalls for me

I'd be curious to see what they'd look like in our 65 size though, hard to picture that tread pattern on such a tall and narrow tire as opposed to a low pro...they do look good though.

Definitely start a thread when you go to paint, and I think you should stick with the original color, but you know me

I almost bought the hydroedge's. Then I really started reading reviews. Mostly on treaddepot.com.....Almost everyone that went to the toyo's I am running. Switched over from Michelins. They all said the toyo's ran quieter, smoother, lasted longer. Those Hydroedge tires (i talked to my alignment guy) he said they always wear in a feathering pattern.

They do. But non-RWL. If you try to search for it, seems like it never existed. I know for a fact they made it as I'm running one of those tires right now.

 

When I was first researching it I found out that they used to... but now it seems those size are discontinued. You're right, it does feel like they never existed lol
