Wheels/tires direct fit and good deal?

I have the opportunity to buy 4 wheels/tires for $500. The wheels are 17x9 and the tires are 275/40. I'm told the wheels are off a Corvette (year not known) and the guy tells me they'll fit without adapters '91 F'bird). They do look like they have a deep center (almost like a built in adapter). I didn't have a chance to measure the back set. Does anyone know off hand what the wheels may be from and if any Corvette wheels do fit without adapters? What's the least possible back set that can be used? Most? I've never dealt in detail with non-standard wheels/tires. And does it sound like a good deal?

they should have zero offset, or 5" of BS to fit the car. anything more and they will need spacers

kinda hard to answer this without any spec at all of the wheel.

if they are local enough, bring a tape measure and a straight edge (about 18" long) and measure the back spacing and see.

Re: Wheels/tires direct fit and good deal?

So I picked them up and the details are: the wheels are fairly heavy cast alloy and the only marking I can see anywhere is on the outside ROH 8.5J17 and the back space is 4.25 inches so as far as I can tell they will bolt up with no adapters. The tires are Dunlop SP Sport 5000 P275/40ZR17 and they look almost new. I'm happy with at $500. Can't wait to see how they do on the track. I'll post pics If I can figure out how.

hmmm, doesnt seem to have enough offset, they may stick out. thats if im figuring the part number means they are a 8.5" wheel.

Re: Wheels/tires direct fit and good deal?

It's pouring here so I haven't tried them on the car yet. The original wheel has 4 or 4.25 inches back space and it's fairly close to the tie rod end (?) so any more back space and it'd probably need a spacer or adapter. I've looked for info on the wheels and tires and can't find much. I can't even find that exact tire anywhere. I was curious to know what sort of money the combo would have cost new.

Re: Wheels/tires direct fit and good deal?

I got the wheels on the car! They are ROH Snypers and look good with the 275/40 tires. As the back space is about the same as the original wheels (4.25 inches) the extra width is all on the outside so the wheels almost come level with the outside of the wheel well. I expect this wider track to show up in better track (auto-x) times even without other mods. The width will be a problem when I come to lower the car. What's the best/recommended way of ensuring the wheels don't contact the body? Stiffer springs? Roll out the lip? Cut the whole arch and weld it back higher up?
