Wow those look fantastic! If I ever put my crosslaces back on I'd have to do something like that. They really look great! Nicely done.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
Next year I am going to take my perfect crosslaces and spray plasti-dip on them (I hate the gold) but leave the lip silver AND put on the plasti-dip glossifier
so they will look just like that but I can remove it to go back to gold if I want to sell her. (DOUBTS!!)

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
Haven't removed the Plasti-dip yet. The car is in storage now with the crosslace wheels on it. I did four coats so I am assuming it should peel off relativley easy but there is no way to know. I want to re-do them exactly like you said and leave a polished silver lip, and do the centers black with a glossifier.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
So for anyone who's curious, this stuff comes off super easy off of crosslace wheels. I don't know what all the talk was about saying that you'll never be able to get it off of these. Each wheel literally pulled off in one complete piece almost. It's all about laying down enough coats when you originally paint the stuff. That makes it come off easier when you want to remove.
Here is a picture with the Dip freshly peeled off. The finish of my rims was already ruined, the Plasti Dip didn't do that. Haha

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
I'm not sure what I want to do with my wheel situation now. I've got the chrome Z06 wheels but I need two new rear tires at 400 per tire. I'm thinking for the time being I might re-finish and re-polish these GTA rims and make them look real nice.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
This is my son's car as it stands today. He wants to change over to the black laced w/ polished lip....

I'd like him to go with some newer gen style or aftermarket 17's.

Probably because aftermarket usually means wider rubber and better traction.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
GTA's didn't come with black crosslace wheels from the factory ??
And VERY true, aftermarket wheels will allow me to use wider rubber in the rear !

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
Nope, only gold.
Not like puking sick or anything. Just feels wrong to put non-gold crosslaces on a GTA. Its a hint of Stock **** from somewhere.
Which is odd because I had White Salad Shooters on my car for a long time. The Salad shooters happened because I sold my Crosslace rims to for a set of C5 Vette wheels, then decided not to put them on my car and ended up in a No wheel situation. The white salad shooters came up for free with rubber so I ran on those for 2 years.
Now i have white ZR1s with NT05 rubber.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

while the Transam was trying to be something it wasnt. I like the GTA for the engine potions and the monochrome paint scheme that was missing but then became the norm on trans ams.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
The crosslace wheels do look good but there are definitely better options out there for rims I feel. I love how my Z06 rims look. Especially in chrome. It seems to break up all the black on my car. Plus you can't go wrong with the fat tires I can run now. This picture was back from during the summer, I took the wheels off before I put the car away for winter storage.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels
Because GTA rims leave you stuck with a 16x8 tire and the rubber choices in that category are slim to none for a good street tire.
For some of us, the performance of the tire we can put on the rim is as important or more important that the need to maintain originality.
I love the look of the gold crosslace wheels, but find me good summer tires for those that can fit a Corvette C5 brake swap. Bigger brakes require bigger tires. My 17" ZR1s barely fit the C5 brake upgrade to begin with. its scary tight.
