Totally black GTA wheels

I've got the GTA crosslace wheels in gold with the polished lip. I'm thinking about painting them black, but not just the gold part, the entire wheel. I'm wondering if anyone on here has pictures of what that may look like.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

All solid black wheels regardless of the center design, IMHO, just end up looking like spare steel wheels.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

That's kinda what I what I was afraid of with painting all of them, that it would look cheap, regardless how well the paint turned out. I know they made black crosslaces from the factory but I kinda want more of a black look.

I was thinking of painting half of the lip, and have it divided by the bump in the lip itself. I wonder how that would look. I'm still half tempted just to see what a crosslace wheel would look like totally blacked out, I've never seen any like that on this forum, or anywhere for that matter.

^thats not what I meant. That's still got the silver lip. I'm talking about blacking out the entire rim.

That's kinda what I'm afraid of. But I did plan on using Plasti Dip so if I didn't like it I guess I could just peel it off.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

do one and mock it up, first with half lip, and then you could paint the rest. Plasti dip will peel off and is cheap to do. dirt will get embedded in it and they may need to get redone 1-2 times a yr depending on your road/weather conditions where u live. thats what ive gathered from different boards.. im thinking of doing that with formy wheels..

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

A small diameter wheel usually looks terrible when blacked out. Black wheels usually look best when they're 18" or 19"

Found a picture of someone that did it. Since I'm only using Plasti Dip I suppose I can peel it off if I don't like it.

Not a fan of all black.. It takes away some detail and make the car look kinda blah.
If you have photo chop take a pick of the car then black em out..
It may just save you some time and money..

i agree 100% the polished lip along with painting the cross lace bring these wheels up to date if you cant afford expensive like my self. i looked for wheels all last winter and discovered i have expensive taste. im so happy i decided refinish my wheels in the back yard. very affordable and looks great imo.

on the other hand 2012 tacoma with a lift and 17'' wheels im going all black with a mat finish.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

Well...I did it....

And I really like it! I ended up using Plasti Dip so I really can just pull it off if I want. I ended up refinishing the wheels before painting them by sanding them cuz they were really beat up. Anyways, here's the final product. Like I said, I can always peel it off if I change my mind.

PS, I am a fan of all the other work I got done today such as re-undercoating my car, painting the suspension parts, and taking care of any surface rust I found under my car.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

So here they are on the car. The front end needs to be lowered a good inch or so. I like the look. I'm debating now whether or not to clear coat these. They look kinda cool in flat black. We'll see what I end up doing. Thanks for all the feedback!

88fastgta- it isn't too bad. It depends on what shape your wheels are currently in. Mine had lots of pitting so I had to sand and refinish my rims before I attempted painting them. Would you leave the silver lip or paint the entire rim?

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

Really inexpensive! The Plasti Dip itself is only $6 per can. We'll have to see how long this lasts before it begins to peel or chip. Lowering it is definitely on my list of things to get done in the near future.

I like black wheels, I have black soft 8's on my truck, but I have white letter tires and stainless center caps to off set all the black. Your car looks nice, but would look better IMO when the lip still polished.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

To answer some questions, you can do it in gloss. You just use the normal Plasti Dip first, and then spray a clear coat over it a few coats. It should peel off just fine if you wanted because the Plasti Dip would be the original surface of what is bonded to your rim.

It's been about two weeks and it's holding up really well. One wheel has some minor peeling inside a honeycomb because I failed to clean well enough inside of it. But other than that, they still look fantastic. I've even had them up 100+ MPH. Washed the car a few times and these come clean very easily with just a soapy rag and a rinse. Very impressed.

Thanks for all the input.

Also blacked some more of the car out today. It looks sinister. Blacked out front and back side markers with VHT Niteshades, repainted doorlock keyhole to black like OEM, and with my tint and wheels this thing looks mean!

Gunna let you all in on a little secret, got some new wheels for my car that'll be going on shortly. Look out for that!

Anyways, here's pics of everything as it sits now. The little spot for the keyhole looks SO much better in black!

IMO 18's are perfect sized wheels on our cars. Not too big, not too small. I've also been a fan of the staggered look with 18 front and 19s in the rear.

Thank you very much! I was so unsure how this would turn out and I think it ended up looking pretty good. It's funny, people say my car looks like KITT because everything on it is blacked out now.

Black car, black rims with a red lip, red brake calipers, red suspension parts. So sexy. Haha. I think finally getting my windows tinted really helped tie together the blacked out look on my car. But now I feel like it's too much black. Can't wait to get my chrome Z06's on there!

At least now it fits much better with the mismatched tires, the front tire mounted backwards, and the goofed up head lights.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

I don't think it looks terrible but I know from experiance trying to get the plastidip off of those wheels is going to be a BITCH. I did it once on one of mine because I was bored and spent 2 whole days trying to peel it off due to all the mesh holes. Even air craft stripper won't even make a dent in it. I plastidipped my Snypers and it came out great.

Plasti-dipped wheels are off and have been replaced by these. Which are now mounted in the CORRECT direction

Its hard to pull off chrome and a black and gold GTA though. whats why my rims are black and not chrome. Cant stand the stock BBS/Gold look to GTA wheels but I know I am quite alone in that opinion. I was tempted to keep the formulas I have on it Chrome but with the gold GTA badges and interior it wouldnt of looked right in my opinion

Blown motor!? What happened? Head gasket? Better excuse to do heads and cam now
But I'm really sorry to hear that, especially with the T56 and new rims. Eeeek. Like you said, at least you've got a car you can enjoy while the GTA is down.

Haha you are one of the few who doesn't like the gold honeycombs. I just feel like the date the car and make it look old. It was a toss up for me between Z06's and C6 rims. I just feel like they go well with the lines of our cars.

Closer to a Knock Knock joke then a blown gasket. I WISH it was just a bad gasket. Spun a rod bearing.

Re: Totally black GTA wheels

Hell, I would plastidip the centers and leave the polished lip. That would look sick.
