Well I just got my rims put on my car and took some pics today. I always loved the Crager SS/T's growing up, but obviously they're not around any longer so I got these. I ordered 4 15X8's and I should have ordered 15X7's for the front. The front tires rub on the plastic inner fender wells. I might cut out the areas that are rubbing....it's only when I'm backing up and turn the wheels. Other than that I'm pretty happy with them!! The best part is the grand total I spent for the rims with shipping, dismount, balance, and mount was $545!!!

 

Oh the memories of that wheel & white letters!!

***update*** I replaced the front 15x8's and put on 15x7's. No more rubbing. I guess that was a $197 lesson learned...lol. CRAP!!!!!

I just sold a set of Caragar S/S wheels. They were a little wide though. They were 8.5's.

On my last IROC - an 86, I ran outlaws with 265/50-15's. they were 26" tall, so didn't have a speedo issue. They DID rub when driving around tight turns in parking lots. They rode good and lunched really well too. I'm "considering" doing something like that with my 87, now that I've seen yours.

 

If you do decide on some outlaws, I have a pair of 15x8 that was mounted, drove a couple miles, then dismounted. They rubbed, so I ordered a pair of 15x7's for the front. Will make someone a good deal on them...lol.

 

The problem wasn't the 8" width, it was ordering the wrong backspacing. But better to suffer the rubbing than to give up response and ultimate grip by reverting to 7s. It looked good, now it looks a bit...umm...doofy.

 

BTW, for the same money you could have chosen something that'll allow a big brake upgrade.

Okay, I want you kiddies to know it took me 2 hours rummaging through old family albums to find this pic of my ole 86. I sold this one in 92 when I got a company car - The X old lady made me do it. Now she's gone, I have an 87. ANYWAY, the 86 with 265 50 15's on it I think.

Are you talking about the wheels on the 5th gens, or the wheels on my 87? The
87 has aftermarked 9 1/2" aftermarkets, zero offset, and chromed. Only issue is, I can't get enough 16" tread on the ground to get a decent launch. I'm working on getting some 17" vette wheels with drag radials.

I was just up in Streetsboro about 2 months ago. (funeral in Hiram). I could hardly
get around the place as it's changed so much. Still a pretty town though.

I'm going to toot my own horn here and suggest you take a look at CTW Motorsports 17" wheels for the third gens. No spacers needed, they only weigh 20lbs, and would work with drag radials in the 275-40-17 size.

Not trying to take anything away from "stahrman0612s" thread but wanted to emphasize on the the staggered look of the 7in.x15 wheels front with the 8in.x15 rear. That's what I run with 235/60r15 in front with 255/60r15 rear. Your Outlaw 1s and the smaller dish in the front with a larger dish rear is how that wheel is supposed to be, besides the 7s and 8s x 15 only come in one bs in that wheel. Mine are American Racing AR-23s but are in the same class as the Outlaws. I think your wheels look great. Something a little different for a change.

 

Those are beautiful wheels. A little pricey but no spacers mean you can subtract $200 to $300 in spacers. I fired off a question about wider sizes to them a few minutes ago. That blue Camaro with the silver rims and Toyo tires looks great.

Exactly, the spacers add money, complexity, and weight, but can be an option if you can get factory wheels at a very good price (tires are a wash if you need new ones, a bonus if they are included buying used).

You can fit a 285-40 tire on the 9.5" wheels, but a 315 is too wide, as is a 305 or 295. 295 needs a 10" to 10.5" and the 315 needs a 11" or 11.5". We don't offer anything larger than the 9.5" now, that may change in the future.

 

Paul - I looked at your website....nice wheels!! - love the silver ones...where were these 5 months ago when I bought mine?? Just kidding, I'm happy with mine.

It is tough to find 9.5" wide wheels in any decent style with the right backset for these cars. Those are some huge tires on the front of yours (275's or 285's??)...any issues with rubbing stop-to-stop? Just curious..

5 Months ago they were on order from my manufacturer, didn't want to hype them before they came in - ended up being about 6 weeks later than planned due to delays...

Tires are 275-40-17 Falken Azenis RT615K all around - a super agressive tread that can be used for racing (road) as well as street driving. The black set has the same size 275-40-17, but are Continental Extreme Contact DW tires.

My car isn't running right now, but trying to turn the wheels without power assist won't allow me to hit the stops (275 tire on a garage floor is not easy to turn). It probably will rub a little on the inside of the frame under full lock (my 1992 Z28 wheels did), but there is not inner fender plastic contact at all.
