Why are 92 RS factory wheels different sized back to front?

Why are 92 RS factory wheels different sized back to front?

I knew my wheels on my 92 are different in size on the front and back, but I thought it was due to having drum brakes in back, and disc in front. I was told by a tire dealer that it was for different sized tires. Any input would be appreciated.

Regardless of disc or drum brakes, front and rear 16" wheels have a different off-set. Cars with drums were equipped with a spacer. Nothing to do with tire size.
