The most basic thing to understand when ordering wheels w/ different offsets is . . .
That the stock backspacing for our cars was 4.5"F and 5.5"R; and that whatever offset you order, you want to get a spacer/adapters that maintains those numbers???
Or is there wiggle room to how much more or less backspacing will work on our cars, eg, if someone wants a flush look they may go with 5"F and 6"R (but they may rub up front during full lock?).
I'm just trying to understand the math here, as I'm looking at some 8.5"F (30 offset) and 9.5"R (35 offset) for my car. They're made for BMWs, so I would have to get an adapter/spacer anyways to adjust for the slight difference in lug pattern.

3 series fitment really put the rims tucked in there I myself hate it. You can go to ET20 or even 15 and it'll look a ton better. 5 series fitment. I have 8.5 & 9.5 ET15s on my car and it's near perfect and the front are even further out than stock because of a C5 brake upgrade. I run them bolt on with quality hubcentric rings and never ever had a problem and I have put a lot of miles on the car with several BMW wheel sets. In fact, only 350 miles to go and my 88 is "new" again LOL

If I may, where did you get your hubcentric rings at? (w/o spacers?)

none, all direct bolt on. You can buy the hubcentric rings on ebay and specialized hubcentric stores http://www.hubcentric-rings.com

So with these BMW wheels that I'm looking at:
F: 19 x 8.5 (+30)
R: 19 x 9.5 (+35)
I should pick up some adapters from http://www.motorsport-tech.com/ that are 1" in the front and 1 1/4" in the rear? Of course the adapters would adjust the bolt pattern.
And lastly, looking at 245/35 up front; and 285/35 for the rear.

Check if the wheels are available for a 5er. The 3s will work without spacers.
