Max Slick Width

My 85 is strictly a drag car. It has not been back-halfed or had really any work done on the suspension except air bags. I'm running 15 inch wheels with 10 inch slicks, not sure the diameter. I have swapped engines and the new engine has about 150 more hp than the old one. I need to be able to put on bigger tires but I don't know how big I can go. If anybody has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Re: Max Slick Width

That's about it without inner wheel well work. That said, people run really really fast on smaller drag radilas, so you might consider tuning the suspension over just installing a larger tire.

Re: Max Slick Width

I would like to see some pics. Forgot to mention this car has a 9" Ford rear end. I believe the axle housing has been narrowed. my email is jreiley@frontiernet.net

Thanks.

Re: Max Slick Width

A friend had 29.5x10.5(measures 29.8" tall)ET Drags on his 92 RS but it took cutting the bumpstops out and some hammering. Never ran it, didn't look safe at all. I'd stick with 28x10.5's myself. People put 2000+hp to that tire.

Re: Max Slick Width

As stated above...

Use a 28" slick...hammer the front of wheel well and take out bump stops...change the gear if you need to.

With more power...you may be running higher rpms with the new motor...so keep that in mind with your combo.
