Bigger Rear Wheels/Tires

I'm finally gonna start putting my 84 z28 back together (wrecked 3 years ago). I want to put bigger wheels and tires on the rear and probably keep 15s on the front. Please reply with any suggestions, recommendations, etc. And Pics would be great!

15x10s are the largest you can fit before having to do major surgery.

5.5" backspacing will fit no problems with a hammer in a few spots
6.5" backspacing which most people use takes some cutting and hammering (shaving bump stops some wheel well cuttting)

6.5" is is what most people like because the 8" wide rims are 4.5" backspacing so 10" wide rim with 6.5" backspacing will have the same spacing on the outside of the rim.

Various people will say 5.5" backspacing will stick out of the fender but it doesn't with the proper tire. It does bring the tire pretty close to the lip.

Thanks for the info fireturd. Any idea how I can see some pictures of camaros with these different setups? I've googled a few different things but haven't had much luck

Re: Bigger Rear Wheels/Tires

If your going to stay with 15s and its primarily a street car I would not go any larger than 235/60r15 front on a 15x7in wheel and 255/60r15 rear on a 15x8in wheel. That set up will give you a nice staggered look with a slight rake.7in.wide front wheels give you just enough dish and the 8in. wide rear wheel gives you a nice deep dish. The reason I prefer that combo for primarily a street car is IMO the larger, taller 275/60r15 look like your ready to launch a 500hp car at the track and there's nothing wrong with that if that's what your looking for , and then there's the 295/50r15s that will not tuck without major well work and are total overkill "again" for primarily a street car. Here's a link that shows what I'm talking about. =

Re: Bigger Rear Wheels/Tires

Right now I'm running 235/60s on 8s on the rear, don't know the backspace or offset, but the wheels themselves aren't protruding. The tires are on the verge, but have right at 3" of clearance from the bulge above the bump stops.
So with the right backspace a 10 should tuck.

Re: Bigger Rear Wheels/Tires

It kinda sucks but there are really only 2 choices when it comes to 15in.wheels that fit your request. There's the 255/60r15 on a 8in. wheel (what I have) or the 275/60r15s on a 10in. wheel or larger tires with tub work.
(some have squeezed a 275 on 8in. wheels)
Here's a link showing some of the cars with 275/60r15s
