BFG KDWII, or Nitto NT05?

Guys I'm buying new tires for the rear of my car. My question is which direction you would go.

Would you pay more for a BFG KDWII that matches your KDWII that you have on the front wheels. Completes the look, front to rear. Keeps vehicle brand loyal front rear. KDWII is being discontinued for the Rival series of tires...

Or

Install a cheaper Nitto NT05 tire in the same size. Obvious different tread designs. Sidewall designs differ some. The Nitto is supposed to be a sticker tire compared to the KDWII.

I feel like running the BFG completes the look, but might be leaving some performance on the table. If I have a tire problem later might not have a matching replacement available?

What do you guys think?

I match tires when i can. However both my cars have different rear tires now because of drag radials. Lol

But if you dont want a radial, get the matching size and when they all wear out, replace with something else since they are discontinuing.

I have run nt05's and they are a great tire. Soft and wear abit faster than others but sticky and very firm around corners. I run nt05r on the rear now. Second set and i love them for street strip but dangerous in the wet. Surprisingly good wear for a drag tire. Over 10k miles and still strong.

This is how I ended up with the BFG's up front. I matched my front KDWII to the rear BGF drag radials. I wish I could run a 295 all the way around... drool.

I have heard great things about the NT05 in both the drag radial, and street tire, and they are cheap! Really about the cheapest 295 out there right now, but I like the look of a matched tread pattern.

I went bridgestone up front on my TA and nt05r on rear because where else can you get a 315/35/17 for 200$ each? Lol now the tread difference irritates me. But i wanted a front tire that would last longer. Oh well

Nitto is definitely going to be sticker than that BFG - but why not go for the Rivals since they make a 275-35-18 to fit your wheels?

Or you could go for the Falken 625k, which is comparable to the Nittos in the same size - Falkens do cost more though....

I run a 275 up front and like the look of a wider tire at the back. Didn't see a 295/35 when I briefly looked at the Rivals... or at least yet.

Was thinking you wanted a 275-35-18 all around...

Yeah sorry I didn't clarify that. I run a 275/35 up front with a 295/35 out back. I'm currently running a 295/35 BFG drag radial, but my local course and of course GoodGuys won't let me run my DR, so back to a "street" tire.

I looked further into the Rivals, and they will offer a 295, but can't get my hands on some until late July.

I think I'm gonna go with the BFG...

Re: BFG KDWII, or Nitto NT05?

BFG good traction and will get the most miles (track needs a long good warm up)
Nitto Better traction less miles but still good (track just s short warmup)
MT ridiculous traction very few miles (track just drive there get the water off)

Re: BFG KDWII, or Nitto NT05?

Well I ordered the the BFG KDW2 this morning. Feel like I got the best deal out there that I could find short or setting up a dealer account with a distributor.

$503.95 shipped for 2 of the 295/35r18 KDW2

Thanks for all the input guys! Excited to see how these feel around the corners compared to the BFG DR's on there now.

Re: BFG KDWII, or Nitto NT05?

I have the BFG KDW (the originals when they made them in 245/50r16) on the front my 92. I love them. I will put them on my 18s when i get them. You won't regret going with BFG. I would have replaced my BFG DR with the same thing if they still made them. I put BFG Gforce sport2's on the rear. They are not as sticky as the BFG DR but I didn't notice a difference in ride or handling.
