May be remaking 15 inch turbo cast rims for firebird trans am
Just want to see how many people would be interested, they would be DOT certified and made by an experienced wheel caster. I'm also thinking there would be a limited supply of about 600 or so.

Do you really think you are going to sell 600? What quantity do you have to buy for the initial order? My guess would be hundreds. The cost of making a mold is quite high. I hate to be that guy, but please do your research before placing a large order. Honestly I think you'd have trouble moving more than 10 sets year.

Well from what I hear over in Europe there are a lot of people that would love to see this happen, I'm not the one who would be making them I'm just doing the research to see if it would be profitable

I don't suppose you'd be interested in making alternate widths. I'd pay for a set of normal fronts, but 15x10's for the rears.

I'm not sure if that would be an option, again it's my friend who's handing them made, but I'm pretty sure he's only doing a cast of the original rims

I order 300 wheels at a time and it is 8 full pallets 8' high, enough to fill a 20' container to the top, 600 is double that space.
Even a basic cast mold will cost around $4k to setup, unless a somewhat similar one can be modified to save time and engineering cost. You don't want to know how much a CNC forged mold set for our wheels costs!
Not trying to be a PITA, but that style of wheel - a 15" one no less, is not going to be popular in today's market as John mentioned. The trend is for 17" and 18" wheels of a wide width to allow for modern tires and brake systems for our f-bodies. While some 15" - like the Chevy Rallye wheels are made repro and even in larger sizes, those wheels fit many cars and are available in larger than stock diameters and widths too.

If you're gonna do it, do them in a zero-offset 15x8". Proven to fit perfectly. Sales will depend on pricing first and width second.

If you make a 17 inch version of these wheels, I will pay you 2000 dollars for a set. Judge from there.
Edit: it is understood that I will make the bowling ball hubcaps for these wheels in case no one else makes them. 3D printers have gotten mighty advanced these days.

I would invest $500 in a company like that. Sounds like a "sound" investment to me. Since they are supposedly in production on a Knight Rider film, it would make sense that the original series will be all over the screen again. That could possibly help maintain sales.

Though I am a fan, I highly doubt a full motion picture about an 82 Trans Am will ever see the light of day. And with this, why invest $5000, when you can buy set off ebay for six to nine hundred dollars. Joao, in Europe was looking into this also. I'm not sure it went anywhere.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but did these reproduction 15 turbo cast rims ever get made? I am in the market for a set of them and I am not having any luck finding them.
Thanks!

Nope. You can probably find a set on eBay for a thousand to two... Another option that people are doing, buying the turbo, 2nd gen wheels and putting a fiberglass cap on them. They're actually an inch wider than the Turbo cast wheel.

Re: May be remaking 15 inch turbo cast rims for firebird trans am
I have been selling the N89 Turbo Cast wheels since 2002, And I also have talked to a few different manufactures about reproducing them.
Some IMPORTANT things people never think of is proper licensing from GM to remake them and effective quality control due to a risk of a wheel cracking and causing a car to wreck and damaging property/injuring people
Sadly, the KR hobby is dying down due to continuing stupid childish HS drama and "Politics" so demand on parts is going down with it.
Add that some sellers have gotten creative and made the Bowling ball hubcaps to fit other cheaper, easily available F-body wheels adds to the point of not wasting time and $$$ to make reproduction N89 wheels.

they're worth that much???
I sold a set on craigslist for $200 a couple years ago without caps, a guy drove 3 hours to come and pick them up, I figured he was just a knightrider fan.
I must be the biggest idiot on thirdgen lol
