Wheels and TiresNeed help with wheels or tires? Got fitment issues? Have questions about tire performance and handling? Ask all of those questions here!
There is a set of 15" alloys in the junkyard from a third gen, like these:
I want to get them for my '77 Delta 88, I know, alloys under a four door land yacht, but I think it will look good. I was wondering if anyone knew the width of these wheels. I want to run 255/70R15's in the rear and front 235/70R15's. I know they'll hold the 235's, but what about the 255's? I'm looking to save some unsprung weight so when I get some sway bars and a few other goodies my tank will handle a little better, plus they look infinitely better than steel wheels.
There are four reasons I would use these wheels:
They are light, sturdy, and cheap
They'll look cool
The Oldsmobile SS2 15x7.5" wheels I have are rusty and need to be restored
And I think I have about three different types of steel wheels on my Delta 88.

The delta has a full size GM bolt pattern and you will need adapters to fit them.
No, I can assure you my car has the 5x4.75" lug pattern, my drums are the same 9.5" drums found under a G body. If my car had the heavy duty brakes it would be a 5x5. I test fit a 5x4.75" Oldsmobile SS2 wheel that use to be on my dads '84 Cutlass. GM only fit the brakes that should be on the cars if you paid for 'em. It's scary that my car has the same drums as a lighter G body.

Thanks, thought they where about that, a 255 should fit, according to the tire specs the minimum wheel size is 6.5", max is 8.5", so that should be somewhere around a happy medium.

Yep that's the look I was going for, well mostly, I'll have slightly taller tires. Man, even with my trunk loaded down with tools, a jack, large spare donut, and possibly a few people who got lost in there back in the 80's trying to find where their can of beanie weenies went, I still have traction issues, especially in the rain. Forgot to mention, my car has 215/75R15's on it now, they suck.
By the way, beautiful car, haven't seen one that nice in a long time. All the third gens around here are projects. I'm even starting to see 4th gen's as projects, that makes me feel old, when I was a kid those cars where cool.
ive got 255s on the rear of my 91 cant stay on the road for crap if i ge a little snow but inrain ive got no problem unless i feel dangerous and do 65 or 70 when its raining good then ive got problems
Driving my '92 Z28 on Misty Streets after a light drizzle was Ok. But anything more than that, a steady shower is not fun driving on the stock low profile 245/50/16s.
I had to drive on the freeway once during heavy windy rain, Wipers on full speed could barely keep rain off the windshield, got stuck behind a Rig splashing the Pacific Ocean on my Windshield, Freeway felt flooded, you'd think everybody would slow down. They were doing 70 Mph, I was going 50 Mph and felt like Hydroplaning a few times.
