3.75 BS and 275/60/15s?

I've been searching through the threads and I've found plenty of threads of people confirming a 15x8 with a 5.5" BS fitting in 3rd gens with a 275 60 15.

Problem is, I bought the car with a set of AR Outlaws, and I want to upgrade the rear wheel/tire size. It currently has 15x7 with a 3.75" BS.

I want to get 15x8s with the same style Outlaw wheel but they're only offered in 3.75" BS. Will these rub the fenders? I'm at stock height. I'm having a tough time knowing how much fender clearance those with 5.5 BS are achieving.

I have stock 1978 trans am WS6 wheels on mine. IIRC they are 4.5" BS and I run a 275/60-15.

Here's a couple pictures

BS doesn't dictate fender clearance, rim size/tire height does. A 15x8 wheel with a 3.75" bs and 275/60/15 tire will stick out a little too much, you want a 4.5" bs minimum with a 15x8 wheel and that size tire.

Re: 3.75 BS and 275/60/15s?

I have the American Racing AR-23s and are in the same category as the American Racing Outlaws. Both are 3.75 bs

Heres the combination I found with the 3.75 bs.

7X15 wheels front with 235/60r15s
8x15 wheels rear with 255/60r15s

The 255/60r15 are as large as you can go in the rear with a 3.75 bs without extending out past the wheel well flare.

The 235/60r15 are 26.00in diameter
The 255/60r15 are 27.00in diameter.

I really like this combination.
The 255 are not a small tire. Especially standing next to it.

Any way here's what it looks like.

I am now switching to the 15in. Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T all season radials. You might want to take a look at them.

Thanks for the input guys.
Ron- exactly the info I was looking for. I appreciate your input. My secondary option was going with those 255/60/15 tires. Looks good on your car. I'll look into them. Why are you making the switch to the Mickeys?

Re: 3.75 BS and 275/60/15s?

I still like the Cobras but after doing a ton of research I have found that Mickey Thompson Tires have a great reputation and have proven to make some of the best if not the best street drag tires along with dominating the Drag Racing world.
There truck tires are off the chart. Totally bad to the bone.
All of that plus M/Ts history from 1963 to present is very impressive.
Take a look at this, then look at the street tires/etc. = http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/about.php
That’s why I’m changing.
Being a die hard 15in wheel guy makes having another 15in All Season Street Radial to choose from, especially a M/T a big deal.
The M/T S/Ts are more $$$ but I'm going to give them a try.
Two 255/60r15s = $ 140.00 ea.
