Problem keeping center caps on front tires

Hey everyone,

I have an 84 TA with 15" formual wheels and I can't keep the front center caps in the car. I bought the set that has the metal retainer in them and on the rear they fit amazingly well. On the front, the metal retainer bumps against the bearing cover and no amount of modifying gets it to stay.

I've tried using them without the metal retainer clip in them and they don't stay secure. One good bump and the cap goes flying off.

Any thoughts on how to secure the caps? It's getting expensive having to replace them every couple of months because I lose the two front ones.

You can see the wheels I have if you click on my trans am link in my signature.

I'll give the superglue idea a try. Maybe RTV as well? Something to make them grip into the wheel a little better perhaps?

Re: Problem keeping center caps on front tires

I had the same problem with my iroc caps in one of my front iroc replica rims. Ironically, the problem was with the one made in the USA, while the other three that say made in china had no problem. Go figure.
I used a couple dabs of crazy glue to keep it there. No problem after 2 years. Just gotta be careful when it comes time to remove it.

Always used a dab of silicone with mine when I drove them regularly. Tried super glue once but it tried to eat into the little mounting clips so I changed to silicone instead. Also works great on the black screw on lug nut covers.

I've never had an issue with the black lug nut caps, only the center caps.

What kind of silicone...just RTV black? Or another style?
