want to widen 17x8 irocs, but clueless on "how"

So as the title says; I'm looking to widen my rear 2 17x8 irocs. I'd like to go to 10.5 inches wide. best place if seen / found is weld craft wheels. That being said I want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly and fill out their form correctly.

The bulk of their form is pretty obvious stuff..name address ect. When it comes to the wheel is says "widen inside of wheel" and "amount you want to add". I mark down next to the "widen" part and that amount is "add 2.5 inches". I guess my main question is, is this going to screw up my backspacing or anything like that?

Well, if you add 2.5" to the rear of the wheel, that would change your backspacing by 2.5".

What's the stock backspacing? Is it 4.5"? If so you will end up with 7" of backspacing, which will not fit without a spacer or a lot of sheet metal work.

Yes, the factory backpacking is 4.5.

I have a set of craiger 15x10s wheels on there now and guess I'll pull 1 off to see it's backpacking. I know the craiger stick out alittle (maybe an inch) but it also has m/t 11.5 et streets on it and they fit without rubbing on the inside but I did have to roll the fender.

I'll assume that they cant add to the other side to keep the back spacing correct w/o having to rechrome it? A 2.5 inch spacer seems..... sketchy. atleast imo.

No.....you don't need a 2.5" spacer, that would poke the wheel out of the wheel well 2.5". You would need something around a 1/2 to 3/4 spacer and long wheel studs depending on what kind of sheet metal work you wanted to do.

Oh. Well a .5" spacer is better than a 2.5" spacer.

Re: want to widen 17x8 irocs, but clueless on "how"

I had my rear irocs widened to 9.5 inches.....with a half inch spacer I've got 5.5 inch backspacing now......and it's tight.
Just clears everything.

Widening to 10.5 would probably need some hammering of the wheel wells, and you might get away with a 3/4" spacer.

My wheels are flush with the fender lip right now.

There are very few tire options in 17" once you get wider than 275 - what are your ideas for rear tires?

I'm thinking around 275s. maybe alittle bigger.

315 has very few choices, 285 is better, but 275 is going to be best.

I would have the wheels widened to 9.5" and run a 275-40-17 tire on all 4 corners. Or go with a different wheel in 9.5" and run a 275.
