Original wheel weights on an '88 with 16" rims - removal issues?
Hello,
Later this week I'm looking at an '88 iroc to possibly purchase that still retains it's original rubber and 16" factory rims. Car has never seen snow/salt.
How much damage will there be to the rim when the old wheel weights are pried off the lip of the rim during the new rubber install process?
Would it make sense to remove the outside weights, put on new rubber, then put the original weights back on (to cover up any gouges/oxidation) and then balance with tape weights on the inbound side of the rim?
Just wondering what the spot on the rim with the vacated wheel weight might look like when it gets taken off...

Pry off the weights yourself and see what you've got. Might try taking them to a wheel repair specialist and see if they can fix up the damaged spots without a full refinish.
