My daily driver/torque monster. Bought it as a roller in 2009 for almost nothing and dropped in a 1968 W30 455 and 700R4 (using the excellent B.O.P. adapter from TransDapt and a Lokar Flexible Trans dipstick). Also some tricks involved with putting the 700 on this car, PM me if curious about the details.
No passes at the track yet for fear of killing the trans. Very tight fit putting the 455 in the G-body but it wasn't actually too bad after I got over some hurdles with exhaust and the oil filter setup.
Told myself I was going to get a rev limiter (455 Olds is like a massive stroker engine, very high piston speeds), but I didn't. And while doing some acrobatic driving I spun it a wee bit too high and wiped a rod bearing.
It's hilariously overpowered for the tires and all around fun to drive. I've surprised more opponents on the street with this than I can even count. Not great on gas, but not terrible. 18 MPG if I drive it easy, but you can practically watch the needle fall when I don't. Take the IROC on my road trips, right? Down for the count this summer as I work on 455 ver 2.0 and get some body and suspension work done. Stay tuned.
