4l60E
Hi all,
I'm new to the board. I have a 91 Formula, earlier this year I swaped the aging TPI for a 96 LT1 and tanny. The project took me some 2 months to complete and the car solid until the 4L60E blew what I believe is the 1/2 clutch pack (black ATF).
I don't know alot about American made cars I'm from New Zealand and have been a Jap car driver for sometime.
Does anyone out there know where or how to rebuild a 4l60E, My LT1 is supercharged at 6 PSI, via a votech system and I have been told that the 4L60E is too weak for the combo and I should get a T56.
Also does anyone know a good site for information for supension setups these cars dont handle well.
Thanks All

The 4L60E when setup correctly along with the right torque converter, will hold up fine. Did the transmission work ok to begin with after the changeover? Since you are new to this board, you can check out what I do at www.pro-built.net If I can be of help, let me know?

1/2 shift.
After the swap the transmissions seemed to be shifting ok. Although rather late, after digging about I found the diff in my WS6 package to be different than the donor car.
The transmission and torque converter were 100% stock for the 96 TA. I had the computer rewitten via TPIS, and SLP headers, with 3 inch flowmaster system.
It's seemed to me the trans go notible worst after my 2nd 1/4 mile pass. I notice the 1st to 2nd shift was getting later, and I was having to ease off the gas to force the shift.
Now Not know squat about American cars, and being stupid I drove it until it would only shift by taking you foot off the gas so I parked it to start striping it for cancer.
looking at the ATF (black) I guess I blew a clutch pack, I was told that I should have put an agressive shift kit/program into the car when I did the swap and I may have avoid this (looking back is just great huh).
As I said eaier I don't know much about American cars this is my 1st. I have no idea bout the tansmission/Torque convert. All I really know is I think it need to make it stronger, shift harder, and I think up the stall to help with the increased torque.
The bigest problem I have found is not the lack if information rather an overload of infor mation about servos, sun gears etc. I am now being to to find a corvette 4L60E, so I'm cross eyed now.

If you want to do this right, go to http://www.pro-built.net/index.cfm?f...t&productid=48 and add the GM sunshell. This is what I use to build my all of my units with some minor variation as to application. Let me know if I can be of help?
