tranny situation

Just swapped in a 350 engine, and my father says that my tranny is going and was thinking of pulling it off and rebuilding it wasn't sure how many people have done this already.

I think I have a th700r4 , originally it was an v8 305 carbureted auto tranny car.

I was thinking about rebuilding, and putting a shift kit onto it.

over winter break will have week of completely empty time to rebuild the tranny. Just looking for some guidance as to where to start looking on information for a rebuild.

It drives as it is now but not well i am told, Looking for something constructive to do.

#13X. 700R4 Master rebuild kit with Blue Plate Special clutches for the 3-4 clutch and Borg Warner clutches on the others. Fits 1987 up 700R4 transmissions. Cost $145.00

This sounds like it is what I want, will this bring it back up to stock performance?
