You going to lay down some dyno mat while the interior is gone? And yeah get some pix of that with just the driver seat. That would be cool to post here.

Here is a picture of my system. Got the subs for $70 for both of them off ebay, and hit 140.6 db at a sound competition, not bad.

La la la Alpine Kicks ****, Sony sucks the big one and DAMNN I'ma need a cap after Type R #2 and JBL 1200.1 appear on my front door step (hopefully after X-mas, or under the tree). Hey CAMp3RO, How big is that amp on ur Type R? You think the 1200.1 will be to much for one (soon to be 2) Type-R's? Ok, ok, here's the pics...

Without the top on, or the sub in...

Once I get another Type-R and the JBL I will carpet the box and possibly make an amp box, not sure though. Right now I think it looks pretty good

Um no, not yet, I was going to wait till I got the other alpine to ask if I need to separate the box and what the difference is and if I need to put one in I will, it will be easy to do. Since we're on the topic, whats the difference if you do or don't put a divider in?

If you don't use a divider, you generally do not need as much airspace for the subs as required. example: 2 10's that need 1.5 cubic feet apiece, you can get away with a 2 cubic foot box. This is very useful with thirdgens cause with all the weird shapes in the rear, if you are gonna make a decent size box, finding the right spot to put the divider is not easy to get the exact amount of airspace on each side.

sorry no pics, but looking in sig and imagine, also, coming new this summer, eclipse 6x9 points, Image dynamics, ids, idqs or idmax(btw, got a look at their new line, very very nice, the ids are amazing, $130 and imo sound better than type R's) , soo many choices, also an amp rack, and redoing lots of wiring

Here are some pics of my system that I installed in my 87 GTA.

JVC El Kameleon CD player
Alpine 3339 Graphic Eq
2 - 15" 700 watt Reactor subs w/custom built ported box to house subs and amps
1 - 1200 watt Boss Rage amp
1 - 800 watt Boss Rage amp
4 - American Pro 200 watt 4-way 6"x9"'s (two in lower kick panel, two in stock location)
4 - American Pro 1" tweeters (mounted in dash and doors)
2 - 4" Boston Accoustics 2-way speaker (mounted in dash)

I am planning to put in a 10" sub in the drivers side storage compartment.

very impressive setup man. if you take it to a competition no offence but those MTX's didnt puch as hard as i expected them to when i bought them so dont get your hopes too high, never the less they still thump louder then most.

MTX seems to be a popular brand of subs on here...those are thunder 8000's aren't they?

by 330hp_91RS

So lets say that my box has aprox 1.67 cu. ft. of air space...can I get away with putting in 2 Type-r's that require 1 cu.ft. per sub if I dont put a divider in?

man, you're still tryin to figure this out? heheheh.. thats not right btw, if a sub needs 1 cubic foot then it needs 1 cubic foot.. theres no way around that (except maybe polyfill stuffing).. however, if you dont want to build a new box, keep in mind that adding a divider will decrease the airspace in the box (although minimally) for each sub.. either leave it alone with polyfill or build a new box to proper specs with a divider

if 1 sub needs 1cu/ft of airspace, then 2 subs would need.....................2 cu/ft of airspace.
on Alpine1.com they say:
Recommended Sealed Box Volume : 0.7 – 1.0 cu. ft for a 12" type R, so 1.67 cu/ft will work with 2 12" type Rs... using the above statement... .7cu. to 1cu. for 1 sub = 1.4cu. to 2cu. for 2 subs... 1.67 fits inbetween.

a JBL 1200.1....1200W+, can be had for about $280 and is stable down to 1 ohm, it depends on the load of the 3 subs... wiring them can't be lower than 1ohm in order to run just 1 amp.

Ya, I am going to build a new box...I have plans, but I have no clue on how to find the airspace on these plans...they're crazy. The box is going to be pretty big, if I could draw for crap I would post some kind of pic...but since I cant, I'll try to explain... here goes....It looks like my box now, but 3 inches taller, and it will stretch clear to the back seat, being 3 inches tall on the hump part...Im sure that will be plenty of airspace and I can add a divider, cuz it will still be symetrical...I might not have to go back that far, if I can figure out how to figure the airspace on the damn plans...anyone know the angle of the slope that goes into the well?

And it is built outta MDF, what gave you the idea it wasn't?

It is particle board, you are right. From building a ton of boxes, I know MDF when I see it. The color is much darker and it is definately not speckled.

I prefer 3/4 particle board over MDF because MDF is so dense that it's really heavy. Particle board works just fine as long as you pre- drill the holes, or else the wood is gonna crack. Not to mention MDF is way more expensive.. not worth it in my book.

Partical board flexes too much though. Two Alpine Type R 12 being pushed by a JBL 1200.1 are gonna pound and put some strain on a box made of particle board.

As with man things in life there are pros and cons.

Here are some pros of running a divider:

- If one sub fails or goes out, it won't affect the other one.
- If the subs aren't exactly the same (they is usually a tollerance) and they are not getting the exact same amount of power then the divider is nice to have.
- The divider in most cases will help give some more strength to the box depending on how it was put in of course.

Here is a con:

- If you are running a ported enclosure and you use a divider then you need to port each enclosure. If you don't run a divider then you can just port it as one. Considering the smaller the box the longer you need to make the port (if you are using the same turning frequency that is) you can see why having it all one box can come in handy then.

Are you estimating that you'll have a light dimming issue after installing the 1200.1?

I don't even know what size alternator is in the thirdgens so that's why I ask.

easy buddy....easy. It's not the price of the system, it's mostly the installation. Can you show me the really expensive setup that yours beats?

- Andy

P.S. mines as follows (add shipping to everything except JBL1200 and TypeRs, different cost per item)

Alpine 7892 - $200
Focal PK 165ks - $280 in res kicks - $148
JBL1200.1 - $285
JL 300/2 - $245
(2) Alpine TypeRs - $210
Wire (speaker/kits) ~ $100
+ shipping~ $1500
and with an EQ...say AudioControl, i could be high ranks in SQ comps...

no no im not saying mine is better but im just sayin, making a box to custom fit your trunk takes away from the quality, where mine are not designed around things... (im guessing it takes away from the sound anyways)(not super knowelable on the subject)... oh and i wasnt rippin on anyone just in a goof mood

Just a suggestion to ya...move the subs into the well...you hit a deer (or anything else for that matter really) at 70 w/ those things like that you'll take off the passengers head and your head. That is prolly one of the main reasons I build my box into the well instead of on the hump. Don't mean to sound rude just tryin to keep a fellow third gener alive and well!

I very much agree with DISTURBthePEACE... My ex-girlfriend had a friend that died in a car accident, and it was a speaker box that killed him.

Actually you can still build these custom boxes to the specs of your sub, so it really doesn't matter. A "cube" box and a "custom shaped" box of equal volume isn't going to make a difference... except that the custom one looks cooler.
