i had my original setup down in the well, and i come to find out the friggen hatch leaks every once and a while (not everytime it rains though, its weird) especially when i wash my car. so after going through 1 entire system, i put the whole thing up there.

thats cool though i didnt know you could build a custom setup according to specs (easily anyway)

Amps don't get too hot since I don't play it all that loud.
The sub box is under the t-top bag.

This is what it looks like when it's closed,

This is the window. The amp pictured is when I had a Soundstream Reference 300sx,

You'll have to forgive the pyramid amp. I needed something with a lot of plexiglass on it cause I disassembled part of the amp and put blue LEDs inside. If anyone knows of a similar looking amp (same size with a lot of plexi) that's a good brand, let me know.

Is that a 600.1 or a 1200.1 on those Type-S subs? I like the setup...how much airspace do those subs have? do you have it divided at all?

that's a 600.1, you can tell cuz it only has 2 fuses. the 1200.1 has 3. as for the 6x9s in the back....why?

I prefer 3/4 particle board over MDF because MDF is so dense that it's really heavy. Particle board works just fine as long as you pre- drill the holes, or else the wood is gonna crack. Not to mention MDF is way more expensive.. not worth it in my book.
What does MDF look like/stand for? I thought my box was MDF, huh, go figure

It is indeed the 600.1. And actually the subs are the 4 ohm + 4 ohm, so the amp is running the two at 4 ohms total. My computer has crashed on me, or else I'd post of pic of the setup that sits down into the well. It's roughly .7 cubic feet, if I remember correctly. It might be more, I don't remember right off hand. It's been a while since I did all the calculations (that was a pain in the ***.) Plus the polyfil, although I don't know how much that helped. It sounds great for rock, and not too bad for rap/techno. Each sub has it's own airspace. The whole thing is 3/4" MDF.

Several reasons. The owner before the one that I bought the car from had a system in it that he removed when he sold the car. So the guy I bought it from said, the wiring is there, but no stereo. It was just the front two speakers. So after the head unit and cd changer, I decide I needed more than two speakers. Unbeknownst to me at the time, there was a pair of JBL 2 way 6x9s in the factory location. So I started building a box that would hold an amp and two 6x9s on the ledge behind the back seat. Around that time I found the JBLs, and decided to run them off the amp to (that's how it was set up previously).
The 6x9s in the box are blaupunkt and have transparent blue cones. So there's a neon tube inside the box to backlight them. Then the amp has been modified to light up as well. So when you're behind the car, all you see through the back glass at night is two glowing speakers and an amp. It looks pretty sick IMHO.
Third, and this is a really stupid reason, I just feel cool opening up the hatch and there is a pair of amps, pair of subs, and pair of speakers. I just like the way it looks. And I know this is stupid, but I'm really more concerned with how it looks more than how it sounds. Although really it doesn't sound all that bad. And I can open the hatch and throw a block party.

It's the color of cardboard. It is roughly 1.5 times heavier than Particle board. The particles are not really wood, but some sort of mixture, almost like a mix of particle board, masonite, and cardboard, but it's really dense.

Don't worry about it though. Particle Board is plenty dense enough. I have a box that is .7 cubic feet per side running 2 12 inch solobarics with 600 watts a piece- never had, and never will have any problems. You won't have any problems unless you make a box that is big, but you should put a divider in your box for bracing anyway.

it's not finished yet, and i may be getting a new car in the future cuz the Z's insurance is just too damn much, so i dunno if i'm gonan finish it all yet.... and i might have to fabricate a whole new system. The box is fiberglass and fits perfect in the bottom of the well, it's cut for 2 10"s and is about 1.3 cu/ft SHARED chamber. If anyone is local to NJ and wants to buy it, PM me. I'm not shipping it to a different state....
here's some of my setup.

same kicks on the other side.

Nope, that's what road side assistance is for
Seriously tho, have you ever looked at the spare tire? There's no way in hell I'd drive on anywhere on it. Other than that I just keep up on regular maintence, that way I'm not stuck on the side of the road because something simple broke. The last thing I want is to be working on my car on the side of the road. I'm trying to avoid the mentality that older camaros are held together with duct tape and break down all the time.

And I know this is stupid, but I'm really more concerned with how it looks more than how it sounds.
if you want looks, go with VOLFENHAG ahahahahahaha, thats all theyre good for, and if you dont care about sound, then that would be nice.... lol, some of the best sounding speakers are very ugly i.e.: cerwin vega strokers and vega series, adire audio brahmas and shivas, JL audio w3v2 and w6v2, and any onyx subs, those are all great subs, that dont look very nice, but in any case, sound is better than looks, but maybe its just me, because i like to have a completely stealth install.

sorry about the volfenhag comment for all you volf lovers out there, but i couldnt help it. go listen to some JL subs and you will see the difference between the JL and the volfs.

Just because I'm concerned with how it looks doesn't mean I'm not worried about how it sounds. I went with the type S because it was from alpine, not solely because I wanted a giant 'S' on the sub. As for the volfenhag/JL comment, of course you can tell a difference. But I can see another big difference from here without listening to either one. I can get 2 volfenhag subs for the price of one JL. What it comes down to is can you justify the price difference? For example, my brother does not think that my alpine subs necessarily sound better than his sony explodes. Why? Because he isn't listening to see if it gives a flat response or if there's distortion, he's just concerned about whether or not the subs can shake his rear view mirror. So my question to you is how much should the average person spend on their system? You can have a volfenhag or for twice the price you can have a JL W3, or for twice that you can have a JL W6, or for twice that you can have a competition sub. At what point do you say "this is good enough"? "You get what you pay for", of course you do. But are you paying for what you really want, or because you think that you need to spend as much money as you can because you have to have "the best"?

I am in no way bashing alpine, or your decision, but with the volfenhag vs JL thing, you will be able to tell the SPL AND SQ difference due to the fact that volfenhags do not offer even close to the same amount of cone movement that JLs do. whether it be w0 or w7, and yes, you can get quality for cheap, you just have to know where to look, and you have to be patient.

for example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=39771
there is an example of 3 JL w0 subs with an amp, in a JL enclosure, its at $250 right now, so thats 3 subs, a box and an amp for a fairly good price, for my 3 w0s that i have right now, i payed 175 in box, so your price arguement is not valid. 175 for 3 JLs compared to 120 for 2 Volfenhags? which one would you choose in reality. i commend you on your amp choice, that is a nice amp, and will give you good clean power for a long time. that is the amp that i will be upgrading to for my w0s in a few days, it will be perfect. about 200 watts going to 125 rms subs, with the gains turned down, should work well.

good luck in whatever you do

volfenhag

oh, and with the volfenhag comment that i had, thats not true, you can make almost any sub sound good with the right install.
so if you got a really nice box, those volfs can sound nice.

Well I'm always working on my car lol so I have a toobox in the back seat. I probably wont leave it back there but usually I keep a ratchet set box right behind the driver seat which has come in handy so manytimes.

TTT 4 those who havent seen these very good system setups of ppl here on this site.

Well, it would be the same as putting one of them in a .835 cube enclosure for if you put two speakers in one box without a divider they share the volume. If you have two speakers that require 2 cubes total and you put them in a 1.5 cube enclosure, the subs will react like like they would if you put one of them in a .75 cube sealed enclosure.

Putting the subs in a 1.67 cube enclosure for both of them probably wouldn't be so bad. I mean, your low end will roll off a little more and they might be a tish more boomy but beyond that they will still work. You aren't changing the volume of that box all that much so it would probably work just fine and the differences might not even be noticalbe in your case. A lot of people have put subs in smaller than idea sealed enclosure's and gotten away with it so it depends on the woofer, how small you are maknig the box compared to that of what the woofer would like to have and the car it's being put in for the car's interior also plays a roll in how subs sound in the car enviroment.

HTH!
