What kind of prom do I need?

Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction. I have an 84 Trans Am, that came stock with the 305 HO, and I have just put in a new mildly built 350. My question has to do with the ecm chip. I've been told that I should buy an aftermarket performance chip like hypertech's chip, but that it now needs to be for a 350, and not a 305. Is this true, and what chip is going to give me the best perfomance but not make my check engine light come on. Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Get the GM Installation Guide for the ZZZ retrofit. In there it tells you want prom and ecm to use, also the correct secondary mettering rods. I at one time bought all the different aftermarket chips, and the GM was the best.
Then buy Doug Roes Quadrajet book to figure out how to get the carb most right for your application.
