v6 t-5 bolted to v8, good idea or not?

ok, speaking in terms of driveability, if i was to get a really good deal on a v6 t-5 would it be worth it to get the special clutch setup and put it behind my 355? i mean, i wont be doing much dragging, and ive heard the v6 t-5s have lower gear ratios anyway. also, v6 t-5s are virgins to v8 power. that means it will last longer right? help me out here guys, im in a dillema. thanks

i was trying to find this out not to long ago, and the answer i got was that they were weaker than there v8 counterparts, T-5 Questions ,

I hope this helps a little

The V-8 T-5 bolted to a V-8 isn't a good idea. the V-6 unit is much much weaker and the the V-8 is way to to weak for a V-8 with any kinda power so I woudl say don't waste your time

From: pgh,pa,
there are plenty of differences between the v6 t5 and the v8 t5.
For example a v6 t-5 has different gear ratios , with more torque multiplication, making for a weaker setup than its v8 counterpart. It can be done, and it has but i wouldnt expect it to live long, however if u treat it nice and baby it im sure it could live temporarily, until a more suitable replacement is aquired. I have looked into this topic quite in depth before so if u have any questions , ask away, u can probably find all the info u need by doing a few searches and contacting some of the members of this board who have done this swap , and are currently running a v6 t5 behind there v8.

I've got a v6 T5 behind my 355 TPI, and I've just put about 8,000 hiway miles on it- no problems so far. I don't drag race, and I shift real easy, but it does worry me, and I'm trying to find an economical substitute. One tip if you decide to do it- I did mine when I was doing an engine swap, so I had the whole motor, bellhousing & clutch on the floor. The v6 input shaft was about 1/8" too long to fit, so it bottomed in the crankshaft. I carefully cut off the end, being careful not to damage the bearing surface. This could be really important, because if you just bolt it up, you could damage the trans or wipe out the thrust bearing in the engine.

I also run a V-6 T-5 behind my 305. Its only been a couple of months though. It also bothers me some but so far so good.
