87 T5 Wc?
I recently bought a used tranny from a junk yard that a friend picked up for me, Everything on this tranny nearly matches the 89 original trans. Case design, mount holes, output hole, shifter location. The input shaft doesnt match up, the spline (I think thats what its called) doesnt have the correct amount of teeth and is a smaller diameter.
Ive seen that GM didnt use WC T5's till 88 correct? I looked for a sign it was WC (maybe the wrong place) and that was a T50 bolt on the side and NWC being a 21 mm bolt.
This tranny has a date code stamped on its tailshaft (87) as does the original which is correct (89).
Being the used tranny is an 87 shouldnt it be a NWC? Oh and the trans has some sort of steel counterweight type thing mounted to the tailshaft. I asked for a trans specific to my car (89 GTA LB9 T5) and this is what they come up with?
I guess you want it done right you must do it yourself, should I take it back and look elsewhere?

What tipped you off that its a V6 T5? must be the input shaft thats what me and my Dad figured was odd, I had a friend look in his local junkyard for one and this is what they come up with.

All chevy camaro t5s work on all camaro cars, but not on all chevy engines. The only REAL difference is that you can't swap from v6 to v8. Everything from flywheel and bellhousing to the output shaft is different.

The small clutch gear with 14 splines has nothing to do with early vs. late design. That is positive ID of a 4/6-cyl trans. The weight is too; it's a vibration damper, never used on the V8s.

If you are interested in part numbers/model year info for the t-5 transmissions post a response to this message and give me a few days to gather up the information. I work at BorgWarner and there is still some information and lists floating around that I would be able to get my hands on. I can also look up some gear ratios and some of the speedo gear tooth information. Since BWA stopped prodicing in 1996 some info is hard to get a hold of but I do have a few product lists and what cars/engine sizes they bolted up to. The key to this response is SOME information, I may not be able to find all the information to all questions.

Internal ratios specific to engine application would be interesting and there is always a thread or three floating around about which speedo gears to use with a certain rear ratio and/or tire size.
Thanks for offering!!
Pete
