V6 T5 bolted to a LG4 305 question
Im doing a motor swap and will be bolting my V6 T5 to my LG4 305. Will the V6 clutch and pressure plate work okay if the motor is stock, since its only about a 1/2" smaller than the V8 clutch? I talked to someone in Florida who did this swap and said the V6 T5 will work fine. I appreciate your help.

do a search for my posts and u will find plenty of info about this swap, basicaly it wont work, because the spline count on the input shafts are different the v6 uses a 8 inch clutch while the v8 uses a 10.4 inch clutch unless u get a custom clutch disc, it wont work very well, and the gearing in the v6t5 is a lot different , more torque multiplication, so in other words it will break real fast, feel free to e-mail me if u have any other questions..

But he can do sort of what he is talking about doing. He would need a pressure plate for the V8, which is sized for the larger clutch. This way, he'd be using the actual clutch from a V6 setup, with a flywheel and pressure plate for a V8. Now, this gives exactly the same amount of surface to grip as the stock V6 clutch did, since a large part of the flywheel and pressure plate will go unused. This will cause possible clutch slipping and will make the parts wear unevenly (more wear towards the center, where the smaller clutch fits, and none at the outside).
Here is how I went about using my V6 T-5 with a V8. Swap the bellhousing. Use a V8 clutch, with one exception. Get the local clutch master to swap the center hub on the V8 clutch with one from a V6 clutch. That way, you'll have the larger surface (10.4"?) with the right spline count to fit on the stock V6 T-5 input shaft. As far as the gearing goes, it will be a little steep for a V8, but that is not completely bad I guess. 1st gear didn't have a whole lot of use, as the V8 can get the car moving quite easily. Starting from standing still in second gear was quite easy. Anyways, just some ideas to get you going. Let us know what you decide to do.

Great responses guys. I think Im gonna use the V6 clutch and pressure plate just to make the car drivable at first. I figure as long as I dont do any tach and drops in 1st gear, it will last for a while. I wont be drag racing, just some corner carving. Hell, its getting bolted to a bone stock LG4! 170hp.... Ill save a little dough and buy a V8 pressure plate and disc and have a tranny shop press the hub in and then install it. Thanks for the help!

hey guys, i was going to pose the exact same question!
i might be picking up a CHEAP 84 Firebird with a blown 2.8 and a t5. iwanna toss a 305 in that i have lying around and make it a CRUISER not a racer. i'd like to do this as cheap as possible so.....just to clarify,
the v6 clutch disc will work with a V8 flywheel even though it's smaller in diameter? Will the V6 Pressure plate bolt up with the clutch disc? i was under the assumption that the flywheel bolt pattern would be different. With that being said, will a V8 pressure plate work with V6 clutch even though it's slightly smaller?
Thanks in advance
