V6 T5 in a 305
V6 T5 in a 305
I need a definite answer on this:
I have a 87 Firebird 2.8 V6. Im putting a 87 LG4 305 in it. Can I or can I not use the V6 T5 with the LG4 305? I know the bellhousing is different, but other than that will it work? Some people have said yes, and some say no.
Please answer if you know for a FACT one way or another. I dont want a hundred posts about why people think it will or wont.
Thanks

It will work. However, the 2.8 uses a small clutch size that may or may not slip when installed behind a V8. You can go ahead and try using the same clutch (can't remember the size), but might as well go ahead and move up to a larger cluch size since the 305 flywheel is big enough to handle up to a 10 1/2" clutch or something. Sounds like you know about the bellhousing, so I won't get into that. The only other issue that I think you might have to know about is that the input shafts on the T-5 transmissions differed slightly between those meant for the 2.8 and those meant for installation with V8s. The number of splines are not the same. That isn't a problem if you keep the small clutch, but if you want to go with a bigger one you have two options. You can either have a center hub with the correct splines put on a large clutch disc (which the local clutch man did for me for no charge) or you could swap input shafts with a V8 T5 and never have to worry about it again. But I don't know what is involved in that option. Let me know if this helps and if you need any more information. Later
