well for one you would need a stronger clutch,im sure you can go to a parts store like napa or pepboys and have them order an OE style replacement clutch for a 305(make sure you tll them what year it is etc.)Also you ill need a different bell housing, the part that actually mates to the engine and holds the clutch and other parts. You might be able to pull one off a car at a junkyard if it you find another thirdgen f body with a 305.I think you will also need a bigger flywheel-ask around for more details on that but i think small blocks use 10.5 inch flywheels.WWhat kind of car are you putting this in?

junk yard would be the cheapest...i dont know where you would get one new.Im not sure how common third gen f-bodys actually are in junk yards, ive never looked-just keep your eyes open for em.You can always look for people in the newspaper that are parting out their v8 camaro.

im pretty sure a 10.5 inch...ask at a local parts store or speed shop-they should be able to tell you what 305's had stock and that is exactly what you need.

thank you so much
you guys rock !! !
i put a t-5 out of a v-6 on my 305. you have to use a v-8 bell housing. i'm using the flywheel and pressure plate from the 305. i took the clutch disk from the v-6 to auto zone and had the find the biggest disk with the same splines. i believe the one they found was 10 or 10.25 in. i've had no problems with it. it will bake off the tires in first, catch an awesome 2nd, and chirp into third. i hope this helps

the input shaft of the v6 and v8 have a different amount of teeth on the gear so they cannot be swapped, i have the 2 trannys and true, it doesn't swap, but i'm using the flywheel of the ASTRO van and it's disc will fit for your v6 tranny / v8 engine requirement.
and as for the bellhousing, YES it has to be a v8 bellhousing.
Fernando.

exacto.
you cannot swap the input shafts from one another (v6/v8) but you can use the flywheel and disc from the ASTRO van (v6) to attach your v6 tranny into your v8 engine, by the way, what kind'a engine are you using?

no need to modify anything on your v6 tranny, just use the astro disc and flywheel and that's it. just make sure that it fits on your input shaft.
but...if you can get from the scrapyard the flywheel from the v8, much better, just remember to re-surface it.
the 305 engine is not really a hot ticket (unless you spend a few thousand dollars) so your v6 tranny should last long.
Fern.

So if i find all the parts from a v8 tranny for a 305 in a junk yard i should use them ??
If not just find a astro van and take the parts off it ya ?
thanks fern !

if you can find a T-5 from a camaro or firebird 89 and up it'll be much better, if original it'll be the WC T-5.
get everything even if it it a T-5 from before that year.
but i suggest to buy a new disc and re-surface the flywheel, both are cheap and is worth.
so in few words,
1- if you have already the v6 t5 and not much money, then get the astro option.
2- if you are going to get the parts, better get the original V8 system.
wish you good luck with your proyect.

there are plenty of camaros or firebirds on the scrapyards, specially in the US, here in Canada not many and manual tranny, almost impossible.
and it is a pleasure to help a fellow third genner.
tell me what you think of my shifter, i'm adding a pic of it.
i just love it.

let me know what you decide 'bout your project.

dear firechicken, i dont remember exactly the diameter but it did fit perfectly on my (at the time) 305 and now is on my 350, with a nwct5, just count 153 tooth and thats it, the astro has only v6 engines i think 3.1 or something, and more, my 350 (so as it was my 305) is pre-86 (2 piece rear seal).
if you need something i'll be happy to help.

so what you are saying then is that i should just go ahead and get the flywheel, and clutch for the astrovan and it will fit in my f-body t-5 bell housing?
or do i use the pressure plate, for a v-8 firebird, the flywheel for the bird, and just the disk from the astro?

it'll fit the same, i was about to do it but now i got 2 350's and 2 nwct5"s and a nwcv6t5, if somebody wants it just pay the shipping and it will be your "el cheapo" tempo fix.
so basically, everything from your V8 and the disc from a v6 will do.
