what headers to get?

I know this has been said about one million times before. but here is my deal. I am planing on doing my exaust in a week or two, already decided that I would do hookers headers and hookers cat-back.
my thing is I rather do everything right the first time. ok I don't have the money to get the headers coated. my friend has a set of headmans shorties that he is willing to sell me cheap. should I hold off on the hookers (coated) for later and just go for the used headers? (less than a year old, no rust) the reason he is selling his is because he has some coated headers that he is putting on his car (plus it is on blocks right now)
I think I could talk him to like $60-$70 bucks for the headers.

do these used headers come with a y-pipe?

either way i would likely go with the hedmans cause they are cheaper...provided they are in good shape...which it sounds like they are.

The heddmans should be fine. And just think, later on you could coat them. Do the Heddmans have a y-pipe with 'em. If so, what diameter?

You can coat those with some 1600* VHT paint (or something similar), or with CeramaKrome (I think that's how it's spelled). Either way, make sure you get all the paint and rust off before you coat them, or it won't stick. You might also want to throw a coat of VHT on the rest of the exhaust to make it last longer (and it hides messy welds).

Personally, I don't have the money right now for headers, but I'm saving to get coated ones, after having non coated ones, I'm not cheaping out again.

Like said, those used ones come with a y pipe right? if so what size, it'd still be worth it to buy them if there is a y pipe and send them off to be coated , for cheaper than new uncoated headers.

yea I looked at them today and they are rust free. "like new"
no Y-pipe though.
he is still using his "Y" on his new setup.
so I'd still have to get a new Y-pipe.

A new hedman Y will be $100.

Probably not. The headers don't exit at the same angle and location. Now, you might be able to get "creative" and make it fit...

I dont think hedman headers are all that bad. My longtube hedmans looks like a quality headers. They come out of the box with crappy paint that flakes right off so you have to at least paint them or get them coated. I dont know why there is so much hype about coated headers...i know its better but ive never had a problem with uncoated headers. Never burned a plug wire boot or anything.

yea so do I
I think I am going to go for the used Hedmans and a new Y-pipe
the set up will run me $160 instead of $350.
I'll get coated headers down the road. That will free up some money for some other stuff........
thanks all
