Transmission mount Energy Suspension

I put my new poly ES tranny mount in today. It went in ok, but it is at least 1/2" higher than the stock rubber one. It might even be 3/4" higher. I did use the pre-load plate as descibed in the instructions. Now when I drive it seems like I get alot more noise or vibration inside the "cockpit". It's almost more like a resonance. Maybe not a vibration per say because I did test drive it on the freeway. Any body else experience this? Do I just need to get used to it? What about the heigth differance?

Not the first time I've heard of this, it happened to my buddy. It's not gonna get better with time so I'm sorry to say, all you can really do is either try to ignore it or replace it with the a good ole OE replacement.

Good Luck

Had the same problem with my Energy suspension things, motor mounts and tranny mounts, everything was new and raised the whole shebang up at least 1/4"-1/2"

Should be, it really was exagerated when I installed the TH350, I had to cut a hole in my hood to let the breather through cause the intake, carb, and spacer I switched to put the base plate about even with the top of the front fenders, it was worth about .5 total so cutting the temporary hole was well worth it, the hole was fine with the 700r4, once I switched trannies I couldn't open the hood cause it moved it up just that much more, had to grind about 1/4" more off the front side where the breather stuck through. With a stock set-up there should be no problem, usually it puts it back to where it used to be when the factory rubber was new.

i had the same problem. as with anyone else who has installed it. but if u notice those two humps that are on the bottom that press against the preload plate. well those eventualy kinda get compressed. and on my car the vibrations slowly went away. and now with the T-56 they are all gone..

Very cool. Thanks. I also found out now from Steve Spohn that the tranny poly mount from Prothane is the same size as the stock mount. It also has the same internal design that the ES one has so it wont break. Steve also says that they use the Prothane mount in their shop. I'm gonna go ahead and replace my ES with the Prothane one. Incedently, I had also called ES and they are aware of the problem. I was told that they are going to retool it.

Tranny mount

I installed the same mount into my Camaro, and I used the preload plate as well. I did not notice any height difference on mine and it made no sqeaking that I have noticed.

I had the same problem. I actually took care of it today. I installed the mount about a year ago and had the problem. I recently put in new gears and the vibration came in earlier so I took the driveshaft to get ballanced. The guy that ballanced it said it wasn't out enough to have a real big vibration. So I just removed the plate that goes on the trans side of the mount. This took care of all my problems, I took it on the highway at about 90mph with no vibrations at all. I hope that removing this plate doesnt screw things up.

I have that mount, left the preload plate out per the instructions, after a few thousand miles it's all settled down... the material is alot harder than the stock spooge (duh), so it take a little longer to cold-flow to the shape the car wants it to assume. Give it a little time, it'll be fine.

I'm another ES mount vibration victim!

the mount was on my car about 6 weeks, the best combination was - no plate and 1/8 in washers between crosmember and body. the vibes subsided with time but never went away.

just fitted stock rubber mount and it rides like a caddy again.

it only costs a few bucks to both buy and have fitted, so even if I need one every couple of years its eisier to live with than the vibes.

Guys, that's just wierd. I just installed mine back in May and I haven't heard a peep out of it. I used the plate and everything.

Go figure....

I used the PROTHANE one from Steve S. It is exactly the same height as the stocker.

A friend of mine used the ES mount on his GTA and had no problems, I have two theories

1) 350's have harder engine mounts, (do they?) so there is less of an inballance between the hardness of front and rear mounts

2) my mate fitted his long before me, maybee there was a change in the design

3) maybee s**t just happens!
