Almost Done with Entire Suspension Upgrade

Well for the last three days I have been working on my car... Lemme tell ya if its not one thing its another.

Here is where I currently stand on this project being performed on my 87 GTA.

Rear End:
Spohn Adjustable Panhard - Installed
Spohn Adjustable Torque Arm - Installed
Eibach Sportline Springs - Installed
Bilstein HD Shocks - Installed
PBR Backing Plates Installed
PBR Brakes - Installed
Russell Speed Bleeders - Installed
Earl's Brake Lines - Installed
Emergency Brake Cables - Ordering in the AM.

Front End:
Totally disassembled at the moment. Spindles are out and struts are just hanging there. Not a very attractive site if ya ask me. I started cleaning the a-arms today and got the bushings and balljoints removed from the passenger side a-arm. To my large disappointment I found that the Driver side a-arm was banged up very badly, like a big rock was hit fast and hard. I found one locally and it will be delivered Monday sometime.

Getting ready to change fittings on stock brake lines at the proportioning valve to fit the 92 proportioning valve. I plan to get the suspension all set and brakes 90% done tomorrow. Then go back Monday and put the drivers side a-arm in and do the brakes on that side, hook it up, bleed the system and roll!

I am going with 1LE Brakes all around.

Cost Breakdown.

Shocks, Struts, Swaybars, Springs $600.00
1LE Brakes from 92 Z Parts Car - Ended up being free
Spohn Adjustable Panhard - $120.00
Spohn Torque Arm / Xmember - $365.00
New Frontend Kit - $200.00
New Bushings for Control Arms - $40.00
New Drivers Side Control Arm - $35.00
Speed Bleeders $25.00
Earl's Brake Lines - $95.00
PBR Backing Plates for 9 bolt - $100.00

Prices are close to what I paid if memory serves me correctly. Into it for about 1600-2000....

You got it easy really!
Here's my project:

Front suspension:
PA Racing chrome moly tubular K-member
PA Racing chrome moly tubular A-arms
Koni Yellow struts
Stiffer IROC front springs
New tie rods with Edelbrock sleeves
Spohn sway bar
Simmons 17X9's with 275 Comp T/A's 275's

Rear suspension:
Lakewood control arms with relocation brackets
Edelbrock panhard rod
Koni Yellow shocks (I have Lakewood 50/50's for the track)
BMR extreme duty torque arm
Stock springs
Possiably airbags if needed
Simmons 17X11's with 315 BFG drag radials

Also having subframe connectors welded in with a 8 point roll cage and the torque arm.

Also have a new engine, a 377, to put in. The engine has already been dyno'd. Putting in a T-56 too with either a 12 bolt rear end or a 9". Still gotta sump the gas tank. SS hood mabye too?

If the front end sits up high, whick I'm sure it will being that I droppped so much weight off it, I'll use lowering springs or drop spindles.

So far all I've done is bolt in the new K-member and attach the A-arms. Painted the engine bay to match the rest of the car. Other then that it's just a shell with partial interior.

BTW it's a 92 RS.

Joe

Duke,
Ok you got it rough!

I am almost done with the front suspension and brake system as of last night.

We found that my drivers side control arm was crushed / bent. Got a new one on the way, should be here today!!!!

Once we press new bushings and a balljoint into it, I get to mount it and put in the last spring.

Bilstein Struts and Brake Job is already done!

One other issue I ran into is the Master Cylinder / Prop Valve.
I grabbed one from the 92 z28 that I got all my 1le parts from however the thread is different. M1.0 on my stock 87 and M1.5 for 89 and up with 1LE Brakes. And the fittings / tube nuts are totally unavailable from any parts house or dealership.

Hawks thirdgen may be coming to the rescue. He is sending me a set of 2 tubenuts from a 92 rs. They should match perfect. New nuts, reflare the lines and bleed...

My new refinished GTA wheels came in last week form Thirdgen Resource and they look great, they are at the tire shop now awaiting tires. With any luck I will have the car running by the end of the week.,

Waiting on the tranny rebuild.
Suspension and Brakes will be complete TOMORROW!!!!!!!

Make sure you have a tool to do a bubble flare for that PV, other wise you're in for an even longer delay.
