_awesome_ Product Found!!
Tonight, after DAYS of trying to get rid of the huge, white water spots all over my car, my wife and I tried a product that we bought at Checkers (Schuck's & Kragen also)
Its a product from a Permatex / No Touch.
Its actually marketted for tires/wheels.
Its called "3-N-1" or something to that effect. Its in a purple spray bottle. I'll get the exact name later.

My wife sprayed it all over the hood, pretty thick and then let it sit for about a minute. After that, she wiped/scrubbed the hood with a sponge and then spray it off with water. ALREADY a drastic difference. About 3-4 applications and washes later, the spots were _GONE_.
We did also try a HUGE number of other products. We even went as far as trying Vinegar w/ no results. I'd never seen water spots this bad - I mean, these things would _NOT_ come off.
Anyhoo - Afterwards, we went to a car wash, washed to entire car and NO MORE HARD WATER SPOTS.
Seriously, anyone who has anything on their paint that they don't want there, You've _GOT_ to try this stuff. I didn't think it'd work, but it is _AWESOME_. It breaks down dirt, oil, minerals, anything and it doens't harm the paint.
My 16 year old paint job never looked so good - and all this, from a tire and wheel cleaner!
I just checked their website and it says you can get it at:
AWC20
ONE TOUCH All Wheel Care
Ace Hardware
Albertson's
AutoZone
Checker Auto Parts
Daiei-Auto
Fred Meyer
G.I. Joe's
Kragen Auto Parts
Schuck's Auto Supply

This probably would've been a good post for the Aftermarket Vendor Review board... but congrats on getting the spots out

Hmm.. Have you checked the bottle to be sure of this? Contacted the manufacture to be sure it won't harm the paint?
Most of the wheel cleaners (especially aerosol) ones i've seen say not to get it on paint. Usually you do this when your car is wet so if you get any on the paint that it will help disolve it and not be full strength. Then you finish by rinsing off the car.
I would be careful unless you are absolutely sure the produce won't have any long lasting problems.

AFAIK, it will not hurt the paint. It is made for painted wheels, so I doubt it'd hurt paint.
I put massive amounts of the product on my hood to remove the nasty hard water spots on it and all of my paint was left in great shape. No paint/coloration was found on the sponge we used either... It is just about the best 'cleaner' for paint I've found.
